wait, now I think that's too much...2022 2nd round. Should be a high pick.

or Christian Dvorak. 1st and a 3rd. problem solved. Now that they know habs desperate, maybe little something more. In other words, take the pick, use the KK money you would have spent on him on someone else...mint.

idk if that works, but 1st and 3rd vs 6.1mil for KK this year and 6.1 mil to qualify him next year? no brainer. KK is gone imo.

When your player gets offer-sheeted, you can tie-up the aggressor’s cap for a week. You wouldn’t want to do that near deadlines.

sorry to interrupt the montreal canadiens off season thread...but

if anyone wondering how popular Ryan Reaves was with VGK fans (72off big fan I know):

he has a microbrew line here amongst other things. The line to meet him was constantly 100 deep over several hours from what I heard.

wiki...Reaves is the son of Willard Reaves, a former professional football player in the Canadian Football League (CFL) and National Football League (NFL).
Reaves is the great-great-great-grandson of Bass Reeves,[32] the first black lawman west of the Mississippi River. Bass served as a deputy U.S. marshal in Fort Smith, Arkansas under the direction of judge Isaac Parker, known as the "Hanging Judge"

1. Canes might not be that good, lost Dougie, goalie...add NAZI. KK isn't that good right now. They will be good, but not great.
2. KK one day might be good number 2 center. Never no. 1 imo.
3. "one day good number 2 center" is idk, a mid first rounder?
4. Canes 1st and 3rd worth what in terms of 2022 1st round pick...one guaranteed 15th pick? More or less.
5. 2022 draft is super deep.
6. Habs found Caufield, Suzuki, Romanov not top of draft.

Conclusion, it's a good troll, but only because it's a sticky situation for Habs at C right now. Canes trolled themselves and objectively gave good value for KK.

Suzuki was drafted in the 1st round, 13th overall, in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Vegas Golden Knights.
Yeah...i knew that they traded for...forgot...and oops i actually thought he was a 2nd.

But ok 13th pick vs Canes 1st and 3rd in deep draft. Seems about the same.

We can't match that. Would need to do at least a $6.1m qualifying offer next year too or he walks. He's like a $2.5m guy. Take the picks and move on.

With extra picks in our arsenal, make a move for Petterson or Eichel. If nothing reasonable happens there, just rebuild and see ya in 3-4 years. Sucks for CP31.

Three days before the draft, Mailloux issued a statement expressing his own disappointment in his behaviour and how he had not earned the right to be drafted, that he had not exhibited the necessary maturity. He seemed to be asking for time to work on becoming a better person and inviting NHL teams to re-evaluate him a year from now, once he had an opportunity to do some of that important work.
Drafting him when the kid said he needed a year off "to mature" was a big mistake. I think common sense tells us Logan wanted that year off because he knew the heat would die down a bit...still he has the right to do that too, and the truth could lie in the middle. The heat would die down a bit, and he could get counseling, and it would make his entry into the NHL a bit easier.

Quote:
“I was not expecting it,” he said. “I did not speak to anybody. I’m not sure who my agent spoke with prior to this in the past week, but like I said, I’m really focused on bettering myself as a person and if Montreal can help me do that, I think that will be awesome for me.”
more quotes from Athletic article on a zoom press conference post draft with Maillioux and Habs brass.

Quote:
There are many questions that have been left unanswered as to how much consideration the Canadiens had for the victim of Mailloux’s crime. She said this week in correspondence with The Athletic that she doesn’t believe Mailloux has shown remorse for what he did and that she wanted a heartfelt apology.

Mailloux repeatedly vowed the sincerity of his remorse, and also seemed to believe he had apologized enough.

“Like I said earlier, I really hope that she does know how remorseful I feel,” he said. “I have apologized to her multiple times, and I do hope that she does know how remorseful and how sorry I feel about this whole situation.”
Quote:
“During an intimate moment with a young woman, I took a picture of us without her consent,” Mailloux said, reading a prepared statement. “I sent it to my teammates to impress them. It was totally irresponsible and a stupid act that I committed without thinking twice. For that lack of judgment on my part, I was fined by Swedish law. I know I caused a lot of harm to this person and their family, and I regret doing this stupid and egotistical act. I deeply regret it. What I did now is unfortunately a part of both her life and mine. I’ve apologized to her but, nonetheless, this will follow her for the rest of her life. And for that, I deeply and sincerely regret it.

“I know I had said that I did not want to be drafted this year. But as a young man who wants to become a better person, I feel that being accompanied by the Montreal Canadiens organization will help me greatly. They have committed to helping me grow as a person, and I thank them for this. I’ve already started my personal journey, as I’m participating in professional counselling. I thank them for believing in me and giving me a second chance. I promise to not let anybody down. I want to use my personal story to be a part of the solution moving forward.”

And with that, Mailloux took questions.

He looked terrified as he did. He spoke of the sincerity of his apology to the victim, his hope that she understands that, his trips to counselling over the past several months, his need to earn the respect of the fans through his actions, his desire to be a better person.

I understand the young lady is traumatized. And maybe doesn't feel Mailloux has suffered enough. I also understand that Mailloux was not an adult. The law punished him. He has tried to apologize, is getting counseling, said all the right things.

I think this is true, we have to see how he behaves going forward. Habs f'd up though from a PR and probably karmically. Honestly, if Mailloux wanted to be drafted, I got no problem with drafting him, or him going to college to become a pharmacist, or becoming a bar tender...it's not as simple to me as he was punished (mailloux received a 14,300 SEK fine (approximately $1,640.00 USD), it's over. But the attempted apology, the counseling...idk seems enough to me for a 17 year old for what he did. But that is me, maybe someone else has all the answers for things like this.

What if he didn't have sex with her but told his friends he did and she got a "bad rep" and was clinically depressed. How many years we want for that? What he if punched a scrawny kid at a bar when drunk and detached his retina? He got a month in jail. Said he was drunk and he is sorry. What is the punishment for that?

Now that I think about it, from the victims standpoint, giving her that extra year might be helpful. She has to answer questions from the Athletic, while her name isn't in the news, where she lives people know her, etc. She is probably 18.

Then again, I dont know her, maybe she likes that this is raising awareness for such a crime. tbh we didnt have things like this, camera phones that can take photos so secretly and sharing pictures electronically. So I am becoming aware of it. It sucks for the victim. A real violation.

Yeah, Habs f'd it up.

1. Buffalo Sabres: LHD Quinn Hughes
Actual draft pick: No. 7 (change: +6) to Vancouver
My final ranking: No. 4 (change: +3)

I think there’s a clear top-three that has emerged from the 2018 class (followed by a clear fourth), and there are probably still arguments for each to be ordered in several ways here. But Hughes has had the best career of the bunch to date and I think there’s a little more cost certainty with him moving forward than there is with the next two names on this list.

Quote:
4. Ottawa Senators: LW Brady Tkachuk
Actual draft pick: No. 4 (change: none) to Ottawa
My final ranking: No. 8 (change: +4)

If you were to survey a group of NHL scouts and ask them to re-do the 2018 draft, I’d guess that Tkachuk ends up as the near-unanimous No. 4. Some scouts would probably make the case for him over Dahlin, but the majority would likely order things the way I’ve got them here. So credit where credit’s due: The Senators got this one right. You could argue then as you could now about the merits of taking Quinn Hughes fourth instead. I would have then and now. But Hughes was the only player I preferred over Tkachuk at that spot who has gone on to have a greater impact in the NHL thus far. As a result, the reality is that I was too low on Tkachuk at the time. And not because he has become a better player than I thought he would. He has actually become the exact player that I pegged him as at the time. So this wasn’t a matter of me getting his profile wrong, or misevaluating him as a player. It was a matter of me being too high on other players, which ultimately meant that I was too low on him by proxy.
I kinda thought Brady would be included in the top tier, but he says clear top 3, and Brady is clear next tier below by himself.
