He probably overthought the spot and felt it was such a high risk play to go for it that the defense would be caught off guard. Why cannot he just follow the analytics and call smart play calls based on the game situations? As a fan it's so annoying. He's clearly a witty and smart individual and I can see why players might choose to play for him but his in game play calling in high leverage situations is so button clicky.
