Yeah I assumed >50% of the people in this thread knew about the Spiders. I knew it was unlikely that the big league club would take on that mascot again just because of how god awful they were but it was long enough ago that I think it would be kick ass to bring it back. Plus it's just a cool mascot.

Guardians is dumb. Louis Sockalexis was supposedly the reasoning for the team changing their name from the Naps to the Indians, either as an homage to Louis, or as a shot against the defunct Spiders. Either way, the new name is dumb. Eventually liberals will get their way and we won’t have to hear about Native Americans ever again.

It occurred to me on the teammates 1-2 in MVP voting question that when a pitcher wins MVP is a particularly rife chance for this to occur. That's obviously because pitchers winning MVP's is usually on dominant teams and that leaves their number one offensive star open to get #2 in the voting. It indeed proved fruitful, though not really as expected. Here are a few of the pitcher MVP with teammate #2 tandems (plus a few other non-pitcher tandems):
