I get what you guys are saying, but the era of stoicism thankfully seems to be ending in the major leagues. The three best hitters in the NL -- Tatis, Acuna, and Soto -- all play with a ton of flair and emotion. Two of the best pitchers in the NL -- Bauer and Max -- also wear their emotions on their sleeves, albeit in a less joyful way.

And there are a bunch of other good/great players like Bryce Harper and Tim Anderson who have conspicuously rejected the unwritten rules.

Baseball still needs a ton of work on pace of play. Modest rule changes (some of which will be workshopped in the minor leagues this year) probably are necessary to assist speed oriented players and restore balance to the game in the wake of the launch angle revolution.

But baseball is in a better place imo than it was 5-10 years ago.

Over the last week, Acuna has played baseball about as well as it is humanly possible to play baseball. Pressing every small advantage.

I just checked. Albies has a career OPS of .955 from the right side and .741 from the left side. That's so significant that I have a hard time believing that he wouldn't be better off batting right-handed all the time.

regardless of how the reactions after the fact were, the forces that called that press conference are still very much out there

Of course those forces are still out there. Tony Larussa is an active manager for ****'s sake. But those forces are getting smaller every year, which was my point. That era is on the way out.
