What? Your saying in general right handers have no control over hitting the ball to right field, even taking that approach?

I reckon for most, their value as a hitter goes down significantly if they try. There's probably some rare hitters that are more versatile.

Kind of like bunting to advance a runner. Players that aren't good at it, should probably never try. Players that are good hitters probably should very rarely do it either, if ever. Only a weak hitter that's good at bunting should be doing it.

Never knew about Mantle's bunting.

LOL at Mantle bunting for a hit in an All Star game. He was an all around colossal *******. Maybe I'm thinking of Dimaggio, or both.

Manny Ramirez had 547 doubles to 20 triples.

Is there another player with 400+ doubles with as low a triples rate?
Eddie Murray: 560 and 35 ... was actually thinking the triples was 15 when I looked it up. But the triples thing is one reason the 50/50 HR/double stat is biased for those who don't stretch doubles into triples. Albert Belle, say: 389/21.

Carlos Correa is awesome at going the other way. Can't get the current fangraphs spray chart to load.

The all-time sac fly list resembles the all-time at-bat list, with some notable exceptions (Sierra, Baylor). I get why Rose isn't on it, but Yaz not on it seems surprising. Could it be a Fenway influence??

Spoiler:
God help us. I just checked Yaz's splits home and away for sac flies. He had the exact same amount of plate appearances home and away for his career: 6996. And had more sac flies at home in Fenway: 56-49.

Today's slate of games could be the least appealing of the entire regular season.

I wish there were some parks with huge outfields. I'm talking 450 to center, 420 to the gaps, 380 to the corners (with high corner walls). The defensive plays we'd get to see in those outfields would be spectacular. Extra base hits and defensive plays are so much more exciting than cheap home runs. Triples and inside the park home runs would become more regular and they are 2 of the most exciting plays you can get.

Speed and defense value would go up.
Contact value would go up.
3 true outcomes hitting style would be less effective.
Pitchers would be able to pitch to hitters more aggresively.

Better product.
I'd like to see how a field would look if it was 400ft to all points. Maybe 420 down the lines and 380 to center. Or perhaps the fence is a straight line from pole to pole, not sure how the math works for pole distance and dead center distance to make sense.

Well they don’t hit and run anymore, but it’s by pretty easy to keep your hands in and hit towards the hole. Pretty much taught this in high school.

Every MLB team has a player that chokes up with 2 strikes in a RBI spot. Some other guys kind of shorten their stroke, but mostly it's trending full swing and bat flip if it pays off.

Yes against much weaker pitching.

It's definitely possible to do this, but I think most hitters feel (correctly or incorrectly) that it isn't worth it.

Literally every hitter in the big leagues can control their bat. They are the best in the world. It just wouldn’t make sense to have Stanton inside outing swings to hit towards 2B.

Against major league pitching, bolded is correct only to a very minor extent for sluggers like Stanton. Keep in mind that Stanton only puts the ball in play 70% of the time.

In any case, you are correct that, even if he could do it, it wouldn't make sense to ask Stanton to try and hit ground balls the other way in order to advance runners from second to third.

If major league hitters were able to reliably hit the ball in the hole on hit and runs, then you would see the hit and run more frequently.

Very small hint for #4 - he has just 8.9 career bWAR. He's 34 years old.
I really, really thought the answer would be one of Starling Marte or Adam Eaton. Both are close but not quite there.

I know what the answer is and it is going to be very difficult because most people probably do not realize that this person is still playing baseball.
