I should go ahead and say that I was way way wrong about Brodie Smith not getting to 1000-rated by the end of this year. I cannot believe he finished only 2 over par for two rounds at the Beast. I thought for sure he'd be +10 at best.
I had played a long time ago very casually, got playing a lot more as a way to take the kids out when my wife needed calm in the house on weekends, and quarantine entertainment options became super limited and now has become a minor obsession.
I've built a 9-hole mini course in my yard (125-200 foot holes) that's been great for practice and now am watching the Jomez coverage and really gives an appreciation for what those guys do.
Last Tuesday, ESPN2 aired (for 2 hours) a men's and women's championship that was filmed this year (ppl were wearing masks) at some famous course in Charlotte, NC. There was $20k up top for both the male and female winners ($10k for 2nd, $5k for 3rd and $3k for 4th place). The one lady chocked with a quad on #17 and cost herself $15k in prize money.
The production value was pretty good (some back stories mixed in on some of the competitors, highlights of last year's event at this course and highlights of other tournaments during the circuit this year). Several disc golf manufacturers ran commercials. I'd love to see more of this content on TV.
That reminds me... one guy set the record on that famous course with a -10 during one of the feeder rounders into the final round which only had the last 4 players (4 men and 4 women in each of the separate tournaments).
James Conrad hit a ~250 ft shot on the final hole of the World Championships to force a Sudden Death. He ended up winning. Amazing shot. Link is vids aren't working:
1) Just enter the video identifier string inside the youtube tags, not the whole url.
2) You can't set times in the youtube tags in bbcode. Sucks. So you have to tell people explicitly where to jump to in the (long) video and hope they do it right.
