we conceded so much because we were outplayed by any semi-decent team(away from home)

we don't go to wolves/leiceister/everton with "ok we will dominate but may concede due to our bad CBs"
we go there with "ok we gonna get outplayed"

I could get behind this idea, but I’m afraid poor Kos (who is already playing through pain every game) is going to crumble into a pile of dust and bones if he doesn’t retire soon. Not sure I’d rely on Nacho as anything more than an occasional backup at this point.

Also, can’t think of anyone like Ramsey on the market that we might be able to afford. He really was so special.

Rabiot is available on a free, right?

If we could get a monster like Ibrahim Sangare from Toulouse and someone like Kai Havertz, then we’d be in business.

fraser is a fairly straightforward wide-midfielder
i like him but i think we should go higher risk/reward as we need to bink a worldclass attacker somehow

havertz, 19 year old with 17 bundesliga goals, is out of our range already i reckon

Yes, but with £40m budget and 3-4 spots to fill, you'll need some luck unless you have a bunch of phd statisticians (or atleast masters of psychology) and everyone is on the same page.

If we could sell off Mkhi and Özil, different story i guess.

Yep, understat has them 7th on xPTS, below Wolves. The xPTS difference between 4th and 9th is ~6 pts.

I think Infogol had Arse even worse off, 8th or 9th iirc.

They also scored the 3rd most goals (73) in the league this year. They have 2 players in Auba and Lacazette who can score on the slimmest of chances. The ability to score goals goes a long ways to covering up other deficiencies in your game. If they can tighten up their defense a little they are going to have a great chance of getting top 4, that's even without bringing in any other players.
