Oh ****.

I always enjoy explaining this story to friends who aren't into football and getting their first reactions.

I would really like to know the reasoning behind having 4 midfielders for 3 spots, I kinda understand not having a backup at LB/RB/striker like RM did for a few years, but this is just mind blowing.

Mkhitaryan loan with option to buy makes me almost as happy as buying a player.

You keep Courtois, the worst GK I've ever seen at RM, instead of Navas. We have 4 MFers in total and 7 wingers, 4 of them shouldn't even be at RM, while one of them is injured for the next 8 months.

Cristiano's tax thing was only 19 million no problem, though, we have Vinicius and Rodrygo
yep, it's over. this needs to be Florentino's last year, Zidane won't make it until the end anyway. way too many mistakes in these last years, but they got saved in the end by Cristiano & co. in their prime. RM is not competing for anything this year. They've spent 300m and when two of their midfielders will get injured, it will be a worse squad than last year's. Incredible.

I'm surprised Madrid didn't just buy Fernandes. He seemed just out there for the taking all summer.

I really wonder how much was cooked up one way or another. It just doesn’t add up in so many ways

barca ended up with 7 midfielders, + riqui puig who probably should get be getting minutes too, for 3 midfield spots. and i still dont trust any of them entirely

So, Alena, De Jong, Arthur, Rakitic, Busi, Sergi Roberto, and Vidal for 3 spots. Plus Riqui Puig who, as you said, should be getting minutes.

The management at Barca really don't have a clue as to what they are doing.

The preferred 3 should be De Jong, Arthur, Busi with Alena rotating and Vidal as a sub in tougher games. Lolvalverde will likely play some other combination that won't work in the majority of games.

they've kept messi for his whole career despite advances from oil, which more than offsets any other failings

its why they win the league every year despite the biggest spending club in football living next door. pretty good achievement

they've been a reasonable shout for best team in club football for about 15 years continuously now, its pretty remarkable actually. dont know if any other team in history can claim that sort of longevity. as noted above this is mostly due to goat but management had the good foresight to keep giving him another 100k/wk every time he's asked for it and have resisted the temptation to cash in. they are due some credit for that

Keeping a homegrown player, who is the best player to ever live and, who really doesn't want to go anywhere else is not a reason to say that the management has done a good, or even adequate, job. The previous club President and his staff helped create the Barca that we know as the best club team from the past 15 years. The current club President is an idiot who has slowly allowed the level of the club to drop and probably would sell Messi if it wouldn't get him removed from power.

they've had a lot of chances to screw up the messi situation. notably could've sold when he had a 'bad' (only 41 goals lol) season during the atletico year and when he was bitching about his contract. they also could gone in the neymar direction instead of the messi one

and i dont know this to be fact but i would be shocked if all or most of the johnny come lately huge money clubs havent made gigantic and tempting offers for him at various points

yeah, I was happy the things were going in the right direction until they didn't, if he can't sign big names and get rid of players, he should leave again. we don't want RM to turn into a joke of a club like United, for example.

Does Madrid hold elections every x number of years or is he in there until he wants to leave?

The clown in Barcelona, Bartomeu, is out in 2021 I believe.
