Re: 2019 NFL Offseason

Bell contract is basically 2/28m fully guaranteed with 2 team options for 11.5m and 14m in yrs 3 and 4.

if they cut him after 2020 season, there's only $4m dead money on a scheduled cap hit of $13.5m

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-york...on-bell-12329/

so...not to go through all the rights and wrongs of the whole sitting out part again (and leaving aside the Pitt LT contract option because reports on exactly what was in it vary too much)...

by not playing the 18 season and thus exposing himself to the risk of injury and diminished value by way of poor form/reduced attractiveness because of overuse, he's guaranteed himself an additional $13.5m even if he has probably cost himself overall career earnings if we ran the sim of his career a million times

You'd think what happened to Ray Rice would keep people in line.

I get if you think his totals are inflated and it's better to trade him than pay him, but "he doesn't fit the new system" means you have a coaching problem, not a talent problem.
Those 10 sacks were in a few game flourish and he was pretty meh the rest of 2016.

The scuttlebutt is that he's not stout enough against the run or setting the edge to play in Spags version of the 4-3. Who knows but that's what the pundits all say.

Re: 2019 NFL Offseason

I really think the whole bell saga was getting out of Pitt and being a bellcow. It makes no sense if bell wanted to maximize cash. The only way the math works in his favor is if the odds of him getting a career injury is very high or him getting a poor next contract elsewhere was low due to poor production.

I mean, I stand by what I said-- it sounds like Spags should adjust his defense for the talent, rather than dumping good players who don't fit. And Spags hasn't had a good defense since he could run out Michael Strahan, Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora, and Mathias Kiwanuka at the same time.

He could regress and still have a better season than any other QB next year. I don't think anyone expects him to go 50/12 again, even with Hill, but as mentioned even a massive amount of regression puts him in range for 4000+ yards and 30+ touchdowns

chargers +325
raiders +900
broncos +1200

and in other shocking news:

browns +150
steelers +180
