Zion doesn’t play basketball.

Basketball plays Zion.

Methinks this will be one of those drafts that will be remembered for the amount of talent after the top 3 moreso than the top 3. Unless Bol Bol goes top 3. That's not necessarily a shot at the top 3, but I think they all have very obvious holes in their current game to make it so none of them have any legitimate top 20 NBA player OAT equity. Zion would really have to improve his shot to be considered one of those; the Barkley comparisons are apt but he doesn't have near the dribbling that Barkley had either and the game done changed where Barkley probably wouldn't be considered as elite as he was because of the shooting. I see Zion's ceiling has an elite version of peak Draymond; top 10 player in the league for a long time with upper-tier (>30% chance) top 50 player OAT equity but very little chance of becoming a top 20 player OAT. Bol has the best shot for top 20 OAT as of right now with his legit taller-version-of-KD equity.

I don't know if that makes sense, but you basically need at least top 20 OAT equity to have a real chance at multiple championships. Bottom line: I think Zion (and Barrett and Reddish) will be an, if not THE, top second man on championship squads. But they will never be the top man on a championship team. Bol has more top man equity.

Barkley led the league several times in fg pct, tru fg pct, effective fg pct, etc. and is top 10-20 all time in all such measures. I hate the guy, but his game was highly efficient.

zion is a better dribbler than barkley imo, he has well above average handle for a sf

Good point. Seeing him with the same game in this era would be pretty intriguing; if he had grown up now, I definitely think his 3-ball would've been way better.

I think he seems to lose his dribble when operating in the half court a fair amount, not always turning the ball over but kind of muddying up possessions (this is all relative for a player of his caliber). Dribbling is an easily improved skill when it's not already completely non-existent imo. Zion can definitely dribble especially in transition, but dribbling in the half court and the outside shot are just what I see as the weak points in his game right now. Prime Barkley was before my time so I've really only seen that in highlight videos and Hardwood Classics, so I probably have a little skewed opinion of his dribbling.

so bol bol has a stress fractured navicular and is out for the year. i think he'll still be a pretty high pick since there's now two examples in the last few years of bigs coming back from navicular injuries (embiid and marc gasol), and his stats were great

other than ja morant, nobody is really playing great and justifying top 5 hype imo. a bunch of preseason top 10 guys have been kinda disappointing (reddish, shi.ttu, little etc) or have gotten injured (bol, porter)

ja morant does seem very good, has trae young-like volume stats with superior tools. looks like the best prospect behind zion atm to me

such a small sample size on Bolx2 that includes the typical cupcakes for the first few games of the season that inflate the stats.
my honest opinion on BB2 as a UO fan (and a state of Oregon fan): for some reason i have a hunch he will never be able to escape his foot problems. my point of view is skewed by nagging injuries by the likes of Bill Walton, Greg Oden, Sam Bowie, Brandon Roy and the like.

First of all yes I'm a homer, but I don't really understand how Bruno Fernando is seen as a borderline first round pick. For me hes a borderline lotto pick right now. Hes a ferocious rebounder, a freak athlete (amazing weak side defender), has a solid back to the basket game, can shoot (75% ft shooter) and has developed into a pretty good passer for his size.

i watched two highlight vids of fernando and they were both super lame 80% oops/dumpoffs - is there a better highlight vid out there that showcases his actual skills?

sucks that cam reddish looks pretty bad so far - 50ts, turns it over a lot, it's especially disturbingly that his rim finishing is terrible (52%)

picking from say 3-10 seems like it's going to be tough this yr

I present to you:

Ja Morant
6'3'' 175 lbs of raw awesomeness and he is TOURNEY BOUND.

Everyone's favorite website TheRinger wrote an article about him recently.

Quote:
Morant is caught in the middle of a pincer movement behind two trends that could make players like him obsolete. A decade from now, the best point guards in the league will either be significantly bigger than him or will be much better 3-point shooters than he is. Morant has too much going for him to bust out of the NBA, but he will need to keep reinventing his game to keep up with the way the sport is changing. The team that drafts him in the lottery will raise their floor at the cost of lowering their ceiling. For as great as he has been in college, a player like Morant can only be so valuable in the modern NBA.
I wouldn't count out Ja from improving in the areas he needs to survive *AND* thrive in the NBA.

I believe he is projected #3 overall currently. I personally have him as a clear #2 behind Zion.
