Feels like every team would ideally be built around a tier 1 qb along with some special players (Lombardi would call these blue chippers but his criteria for that was far too low). You get 4-5 special players around a great qb (I'm thinking Packers with Favre title year along w/ maybe the Pats, etc) and you're set as long as you don't have any weak links to attack.

This whole draft puts that on a platter for you. We each get to pick those special guys around our qb. Dropoff from Cam to the next guy is less than the blue chip status of someone like Donald or Mack imo, like everything it's a cost/benefit analysis. I'm not sure about Ramsey specifically but I've always put a premium on secondary play (based on how I've always played Madden anyway - lots of cover two man and I play as the MLB w/ no responsibilities due to it being a MLB blitz, sometimes play as SS on a blitz there with cover 1 and just run free wherever). I basically play pretty vanilla and hope for the dealer to bust instead of blitzing (like most guys) and exposing myself.

re: d line play A push up the middle is so much tougher to deal with than from the outside w/ the quick throws nowadays. But ultimately it's a little moot and there's more than one way to skin a cat as long as you have talent. Cam seems too inaccurate for here but you take the good with the bad with him. Special guy obviously. I don't know if he's as good a thrower as Cunningham was, but that guy won two MVP's in the era of great QB play of the 80s and early 90s (Montana, Marino, Elway, Moon, etc).
Well, here's the thing. I know my valuations are a little different than most here, but there was still a limited number of QBs I was comfortable with being the head of my team. Cam is in that tier for me and there's really only one guy left who still is, and he's not as good. Everything else is a significant roll of the dice in some direction if you're trying to get QB play good enough to win something like this.

I had Cam ahead of a few QBs who went before him and while if it came down to the undrafted guy I would have rolled the dice on him sliding, I thought Cam was too good to take that chance, since it only takes one owner who believes in him like I do to take him before I get the chance in R2, and that owner has two opportunities to do it.

If Donald had been available, I was planning to take Donald but I believe he's the only non-QB of a caliber to merit consideration at that point. I still got a premium player at a key position with my second pick so I'm happy.

Vindication!

I'm probably getting fast and loose with draft position and number of teams tbh.

It keeps feeling like a 12 team draft to me (prbly bc that's the usual FFB in my experience).

Suppose it was stupidly optimistic to think that WR would continue to get neglected and OBJ would fall to me at the bottom of the round

5. Donald
6. Rodgers
7. Ryan
8. Watson
9. Cam
10. Wentz
11. Goff

After that I felt there was just a ton of different directions to go.

Nath, switch my top 2 list around.

I'm expecting one of them to get sniped anyways, but if not.

Fletcher Cox

Created 101 pressures last year with 10.5 sacks, 25 quarterback hits and 65 quarterback hurries, coming off a breakout season where he became a first-team All-Pro. I think it's safe to say he'll be a dominant inside force the next three seasons. And yes I'm just going to draft the entire Eagles team, I guess.

I was deciding between Smith and Schwartz. Couldn't get past Smith's nasty habit of missing 3 games a year due to injury.

LOL, I had an undrafted 1a and Fletcher Cox 1b around midnight and then did a little bit more research to see just how dominant Fletcher Cox was last year and it was more than I thought so I switched my top 2. I'm expecting the guy I was also considering to be picked very shortly. It's a good pick!

**** who do i take here. Cox was who I was leaning. Yeah think Im going to be a little reckless here and gamble on a guy I probably shouldnt this high but whom I really doubt will be there with my next pick

Antonio Brown WR Oakland

He's 31 and basically a giant ****ing clown but he's also one of the 10 best WRs in NFL history. Having watched all of his games last yr I dont buy him slowing down like his yds/target or whatever might suggest as much as it was Roethlisberger just repeatedly missing him on throws. He and 1 WR left were the last two guys I had before a drop off and Ill admit I succumbed to the temptation of getting Wilson a fancy toy to play with

The biggest concern is he's 31 now. I remember in the past spending a bunch of time looking up how WRs age. For all but the very top tier once they hit >30, very often you cant expect multiple seasons from there on out before meaningful decline. The thing is it's quite possible AB is at that very top tier for whom this rings less true. For pretty much any WR not named Jerry Rice, 34 tends to be the age when decline really gets em more times than not. Fortunately for a 3 yr game, we dont have to worry about when AB is 34. Also helps AB's case that he has been relatively healthy

Cool think I did enough rationalizing to talk myself into this pick, one of those ones where 3 yrs from now we'll either say "How did AB go 30 and Julio go 13?" or "How the hell did someone not see the writing on the wall and still take AB so high"

Does each team have 4 bench slots? Basically team decision whether to build up offense or defense?

I'm looking at some of the defensive players drafted so far, and I disagree with some. The players themselves are fine, undisputedly elite at their positions. My disagreement is from a team-building standpoint.

It's a passing league, and while having elite cover guys is nice, the best pass defense is the one that tackles the QB before he throws the ball. That's why I think having elite edge rushers is a higher priority than having elite cover CB's or LB's.

So with that said, I'll take the 24 year old DE Joey Bosa.

He has 28.5 career sacks in 35 career games. Top-10 in PFF's pressure rate each of the last 3 seasons. Playing for a contract extension this year.

I pm'ed DodgerIrish

For those picking in the back half of the draft, I think the most intriguing start is the Von Miller/Myles Garrett combo

It basically doesn't matter who the rest of the defense is, those two up front will wreck QB's on every down

Bosa has missed some time two of his three seasons. Was first due to holdout?

Isn’t von a 3-4 OLB and Garrett has played mostly in the 4-3? I’m not as close to defensive players anymore so idk.
