Khalil Mack 28

3-time First Team All-Pro, Mack is the premier edge rusher in the league. He has excellent power, speed, athletism, and the technique to use it to the fullest. Still only 28, the next three seasons should be right in his prime. I expect Mack to only improve as he gets in more training with his teammates after getting nothing at all last year.

Cool, makes the convo easier.

Feel like Wagners versatility in what I consider to be a more important position in todays league (Seahawks also seem to think LB > Rusher currently) pushes him over the top. Not that it's bad/wrong to feel otherwise. Macks obv elite too. Just I obviously know Mack is there and feel pretty solid about my decision. We'll see if I still feel that way in a couple years lol.

Pass rushers get paid like QBs nowadays for a reason. 6/141 for Mack vs. 3/54 for Wagner.

My board at the start of this was something like

I think positional importance is tantamount this early and only pass rushers approach QBs in that regard

Then there are a couple of important positions after that but I still don't consider off-ball LB one of them

Wagner is probably a good pick as the top off-ball LB in this draft, but I think Mack is probably better overall and also plays a much more important position

seems like holmfries was thinking it was a fantasy draft. Give him the 2 hours. I doubt he shows anyways. give someone until his time is up to claim. Run two teams and let someone take over the second one if it's a pain to do the ss.

i think there's a decent case that pass rush has gotten overrated and research from those like PFF kind of indicates that and suggests coverage and pass pro is more important amongst other things

That said.....I wouldnt take an off ball LB in rd 1. Just dont think the impact justifies it

Wagner is amazing but pass defense is king and there are just more impactful players for that than LBs who at the end of the day the key is still honestly trying to avoid putting them in bad matchups and hiding them to an extent

Even for someone like Wagner this is what it looks like when he has to cover a WR even an aging progressively washed one lke Jordy Nelson

There are teams (New England is a great example) that have focused on paying their secondary and working on outstanding coverage and just letting the coverage get a crop of decent pass rushers enough time to get there

Really I think either approach can work as long as you are disrupting the passing game in some way
