That's a fair bit of carnage, but we did have some correct answers, the first one is this guy:

Romelu Lukaku scored twice in each of Belgium's opening two games before having the night off against England, which gave Nemesis, Namath12 and eyebooger three points each. He was mostly assisted by this guy:

Eden Hazard scored twice against Tunisia and picked up two assists on the way to give S.K, Yippie_ki_yay and Jabonator three points as well.

That just leaves us with two aces. The first one:

Your current leading goalscorer Harry Kane with five goals in two games gives kingweed his first ace of the game.

Our second ace comes from NicReynolds, who gets his second ace. With the same player.

Phillipe Coutinho scored in each of Brazil's first two games and then set up Paulinho in their final game to get a scorepoint in each game.

No scoreboard yet, as we're going straight into question 10:

10) Name an outfield player who doesn't feature in any group stage game (players not in a WC squad = incorrect)

This question, recognising the efforts of mediocre players, required you to clear eight simple hurdles.

1 - Don't be a keeper! Fortunately everyone got this one right.

2 - Get on the plane!

Alas, one entrant picked someone who didn't get on the plane. He picked someone in a squad that was announced really, really early, even before I'd made this thread. Maybe he thought Southgate picking Loftus-Cheek was just trolling? Maybe he thought Wheelchair was actually in the squad and would get an inevitable injury and his guy would get called up off the stand by list? Regardless, kingweed going for Jake Livermore didn't end well.

Spoiler:
This won't be the last we hear from Mr Livermore

3 - Don't start the first match!

Dedryck Boyata, either due to Kompany's injury or Martinez's FPS, started Belgium's opening game, giving NicReynolds and Planetist an incorrect.

I've never heard of Rouzbeh Cheshmi, apparently he plays for Iran and LostOstrich knows of him, but he lined up at centre back against Morocco.

Mohamed Elneny had over 60 caps for Egypt going into the World Cup, and added another when he started against Uruguay giving Namath12 an incorrect.

Max Mesa started for Argentina against Iceland with Sampaoli seemingly going for Messi then throwing darts for the other 10 players, PeteBlow is wrong here.

Finally, Germany seemed completely clueless as to what to do in defence, for their first game they tried lolhertha's Marvin Plattenhardt at left back, which gives Vilica an incorrect.

4 - Don't come on as a sub in the first match!

67 minutes in, Renato Augusto replaced Firmino to give Eric T an incorrect.

Ten minutes later, with Sweden coasting against South Korea, Isaac Kiese Thelin replaced Ola Toivonen as Sweden continue to search for a new Zlatan and give MindFckr an incorrect.

80 minutes into England's game, Dele Alli, who had a knock and should have come off earlier, is replaced by Ruben Loftus-Cheek to give eleanor60 an incorrect.

Just one minute later, we have our final sub for game one, with Majid Hosseini replacing Omid Ibrahimi for Iran as they searched for a winner against Morocco, giving LFC_USA and teejayC an incorrect.

5 - Don't start the second match!

Everyone's still got something to play for, more or less, so no huge widescale changes were expected. Unless you're Joachim Löw obv, in which case let's bring in Sebastian Rudy and Antonio Rüdiger! This worked to some extent as they got the three points, although Rudy's game was to be cut short, but Schlitz mmmm went for Rudy and lukethefluke went for Rüdiger, and both are incorrect.

6 - Don't come on as a sub in the third match!

Desperation can start to set in for some teams. England, desperate to get a seventh goal against Panama, rested Harry Kane and freed Jamie Vardy after 63 minutes to give Bob Dobelina an incorrect.

Operation Bus Park was in full flow for Sweden ten minutes later looking to hold a point against Germany, Jimmy Durmaz replacing Victor Claesson and giving Steve Yzerman fan our second incorrect during game 2.

In the same group, South Korea were chasing the game against Mexico, and with 84 minutes gone opt to bring on Hong Chul for Kim Min Woo, which was incorrect for Booker Wolfbox.

Our final incorrect here gives both Yippie-ki-yay and mic_check12 an incorrect answer, with France's midfield riches you wouldn't think Steven Nzonzi would get near the squad, let alone the pitch, but he replaced Pogba with a minute left in normal time. Oh well.

7 - Don't start the final match!

With some teams being done and having little to play for, it may be time for wholescale changes. This happened in Belgium against England.

Trent Alexander-Arnold started at wing back for England to give xander biscuits an incorrect. Leander Dendoncker started at centre back for Belgium to give Cinarocket an incorrect.

Meanwhile, Croatia also made a bunch of changes, notably starting Duje Caleta-Car, the Salzburg centre back, to give mw828 an incorrect.

8 - Don't come on in the final match!

This may be tricky, as some teams may be done and want to give fringe players the experience of a World Cup. Some teams may be making late desperation changes. Or Denmark may just want to waste everybody's time by bringing on Lukas Lerager in the 92nd minute, and giving both rtspurs and Dara D an incorrect answer.

There's probably a bunch of unused correct answers but I'm not checking all of them, so our correct answers are:

Pedro Geromel is our sheep answer and got no game time for Brazil to give S.K, Nemesis and eyebooger three points.

Oh Ban-Suk didn't appear for South Korea and gave Fatal Checkraise and Jack W two points.

Alvaro Odriozola was also a two pointer warming the bench for Spain, envelope and Benedmonds correctly picking the Sociedad defender.

This just leaves us with aces:

Wataru Endo gives JMurder3 only his second correct answer, but a fine one it is.

Bruno Alves was correctly picked by vruuuuk for a second ace, Portugal's aging defence not wanting to get quite that old.

Florian Thauvin came on late yesterday for Mbappe for his first minutes for France in this tournament, but Jabonator safely had the ace in his pocket by that stage.

Giroudgeous opted for Mahmoud Hamdy, the Egyptian squad player not even getting time in their last game when already eliminated and not adding to his current solitary cap.

Our final ace came from Adam W, whose selection of Taison looked safe from the outset.

This includes a correction from the previous score where I'd mistakenly given someone 1 point for getting question 8 wrong rather than 13, it's an old keyboard, ok?

Lol, nice of you to finally show up Cavani...

Also that Iranian guy is a centre half so I think they actually bought him on to secure the 0-0 vs. Morocco, was tilted when that happened lol.

Going all in on Colombia & against Japan would have worked better without that red card...

At least I got a question right, though.

I left the name Oh Ban Suk by my record of my entry as I changed off him at the last minute to Rudiger...if i'd stuck with him he would've been the sheep?

The only other note I left myself was switching off Jerome Boateng to get 2 yellows/a red card. Overall i'm not too happy with my last minute switches...

I'm not sure when the next reveals will be - I can do the next two questions at the same time, just depends after the last game whether it's still coming home or not as to whether I'm at a PC to do them tomorrow evening, or at licenced premises, in which case it'll be Wednesday

Ladies and gentlemen, I regret to inform you that any reveal of the next couple of questions may need to be delayed until tomorrow evening, due to the current status as to whether it's coming home or not, but for now, a spoiler alert, this fine competitor here has, alas, lost a perfect game

Who's ready for a reveal? I'm ready for a reveal

11) Name a team which will be eliminated in the last 16
12) Name a team which will reach the quarter finals

We've had a question about the eight worst teams, now for questions about the best 8, and the next best 8.

To be correct for this one, your team needed to get out of the group stages. If you picked a team that didn't, you'll hear this sound:

as you'll be on the plane home before you had a chance to miss in a shootout. So, who picked someone who was out early?

Well, Serbia was used by mic_check12 for question 11, seemed an OK shout but couldn't hold against Switzerland.

Iran were really close to being a potential correct answer for Booker Wolfbox in question 11, but they couldn't get their shot at the end inside the post.

Booker got a double early miss on this one as he went for Germany to reach the quarters, along with NicReynolds and JMurder3.

Poland was a popular pick to make the last 16, but Yippie ki-yay, Jabonator and Schlitz mmmm were all incorrect after two games in the group stages.

Everyone else's pick(s) made it through to the knockout stages. For question 11, you needed your team to lose.

Russia didn't and caused much hilarity, unless you were kingweed, Cinarocket, Giroudgeous, Steve Yzerman fan, LFC_USA or Planetist, their defeat of Spain causing the biggest upset of the round and making the sheep answer incorrect.

Our next most popular incorrect also won through on penalties - England were tipped to go out early by xander biscuits, vruuuuk, NicReynolds, Nemesis and Bob Dobelina, but somehow only missed one penalty to Colombia's two, meaning it's still coming home.

Uruguay looked like a decent punt with a likely second round match against either Spain or Portugal, which was what ensued, but Portugal were a bit rubbish and gave S.K and Adam W an incorrect.

Our remaining two picks were ace hunting - Croatia got through an awful shoot out after missing one in extra time, which denied Benedmonds an ace, while Sweden grabbing a deflected winner in an awful game with Switzerland prevented PeteBlow from getting a first ace of the game.

For question 12, you needed your team to win.

Spain were content to make 3804680 five yard passes outside the box and then lose on penalties, which cost S.K, mic_check12, kingweed and mw828 what would have been a four pointer. kingweed also had Russia to lose this game, so that's an expensive strategy for them to use.

Another four pointer was Colombia, whose defeat on penalties after snatching extra time in the last minute resulted in vruuuuk, Planetist, eleanor60 and eyebooger being incorrect, the result costing vruuuuk twice having gone for England in the previous question.

Two people went for Messi +10, with Argentina losing a thriller with France resulting in teejayC and envelope being incorrect.

Finally, our last incorrect was from Cinarocket, who thought Portugal would advance, alas they would lose to Uruguay, Pepe's equaliser not being enough after Cavani restored the lead minutes later.

There were two unused correct answers per question - nobody went for Japan or Spain to lose in the last 16, for different reasons I guess, while nobody went for Russia or Sweden to make the quarter finals, also understandable.
