There was nothing wrong with thinking we could beat Croatia, btw. We could’ve. We nearly did.
The final was never going to happen though. France would indeed have torn us a new one.

(a little bit, for a moment at least). The over spamming of it’s coming home and talking as though it was def gonna happen was obv trolling though since the haters were getting so mad. A little bit of both. I really wanted to get to the final at least though, still totally gutted. Probably won’t get another chance like that for a while.

Bad reads itt; the only thing I know is how relieved sugar nut and rat were when croatia finally won. It wasn’t joy at the quality of croatia’s play, it was relief. A brief history lesson: ‘it’s coming home’ usually occurs in the months leading up to a tournament but this year we didn’t think the team could do it. Then after two minutes against tunisia, it became pretty obvious that this team was at least making the semis so we got into the spirit of the world cup. We got a little over excited and I can forgive the premature final thread: mistakes were made this time but I don’t want to see any of that in 2020, when it finally does come home.

I loved to see England go out but are any of you guys serious? They were in a World Cup semi with a beatable opponent ahead. If you're not in full boom phase at that point, you're doing it wrong. Same as Pool fans being top of the league with a few games left four years ago or in the CL final this. That's not the time for cheerful cautious optimism, if you're not a Bayern/Juve/PSG fan you need to milk that boom for whatever you can.

I think it's fair to say that there are A LOT of people in england who don't understand how inadequate the national team is, and took it pretty seriously. Then there were the others who just found it pretty funny. There was some real gold coming out of that meme.

I'm not sure what the "European Championship" being "paraded" means exactly, but I like the side of the bet where somebody or other is parading the trophy around at the site of the final match.

I really don't get the meme hate, especially from a Portuguese fan- your lot have experienced it all with a golden generation that kept letting chances get away, losing a final at home etc. Surely in 2016 you were super giddy about playing Wales in the semi and then getting to the final. There's more English people here than Portuguese so I see why it annoys people, but as a fan of a big team that hadn't won anything until recently I would've thought you knew the kind of self-ironic, kind of serious/hopeful talk about finally ending the curse. I know it from my club team and completely understand the English in this spot.
