So the latest story is that Rich Paul was told in the sixers meeting that they have offered spurs a deal for kawhi, but only if lebron commits. Theory is that its covington+saric+21 heat pick.

And all the sudden that team makes a lot of sense. It's not perfect for Lebron to do his herculean things, but why would he need to with all that talent? Seems like very little risk for Philly considering what they could end up with.

Monte!

What are Philly feelings on this? I know as a homer I get irrationally attached to our guys, but it sure seems as though it's very little of their core.

PG is from Palmdale/Fresno, which is more like OKC than LA.

I'm not in Philly anymore, but the gestalt I get from my acquaintances and Philly bball Twitter is that everyone would be pretty in favor of that deal - even though he made huge strides this year, Saric is pretty redundant with LeBron/Kahwi, as is RCo, and there is cautious optimism around Fultz/Zhaire.

I have no inside information, but I find it impossible to believe we wouldn't have to include at least one of Fultz or Smith in that package (maybe in lieu of RCo), but I guess we'll see. Hopefully they don't give up too much control to GMLeBron, but Simmons/Probably Redick/Kahwi/Bron/Embiid is so ridiculous it'd be a nice problem to have, and realistically I'd probably give up at least three and probably four of those are assets (RCo/Saric/Fultz/Smith/21 Heat pick) to make it happen, assuming there was a wink wink with Kahwi's camp for next summer.

I know you're mad and it's probably not PG's best decision afa wins are concerned, but I think this is a huge win for OKC, Russ, and small market teams in general. What PG did, as quickly as he did, tells me that he was traded to a place he didn't want to go to and stayed because he fell in love with his situation regardless of the product on the court. David Griffin spoke a lot about this last night on NBATV, and he thinks they'll be one of the more galvanized teams next year because of this decision.. I agree

I'm annoyed at the hate that PG or their organization is getting right now. They messed up w/Harden and are trying to rectify that by paying out the nose. PG13 doesn't form a superteam in LA and now he's somewhat of a pariah for being "dumb"... which is just dumb.

good for him

If I got Kawhi/Bron I'd definitely rather keep Cov than Fultz.

Fultz, Saric, Bayless, Heat pick, few other picks for Kawhi and then just gamble Bron sees he has to sign seems like the play.

Same local Denver guy that broke the original Lebron stuff is saying Denver also has a potential trade lined up for Kawhi involving Jamal Murray or Gary Harris and probably MPJr.

I think:

Harris
Barton
Kawhi
Bron
Jokic

beats GSW

Palmdale may be the OKC of LA, but OKC is the OKC of OK.

Would amuse me to see Covington traded as soon as they get good. Had to listen to how hes the most elite role player of alltime for like 4 years in a row and how valuable that will be once they get good.

Would be nice to see him get traded for actual great players (And then probably suck in Cleveland lol).

Any of non Simmons/Embiid for Kawhi is obviously something they should do regardless of LeBron.

Simmons Kawhi Embiid is an absurd core.

Yeah, seems absurd you wouldn't deal Fultz in a trade for Kawhi and then make Bron choose Lakers w/ no one or a stacked Phi team.

But it is a very high leverage spot. It's just if you get it right you might have the GOAT team.

Seems dumb as hell to me unless these deals for Kawhi and Lebron are under the assumptions that this is a one to two year rental to buy a title. I don't mind doing it as well. In a few years they will still have assets and money to spend but the team might not be as organic as most expected.

kawhi isnt gonna resign in philly, no chance they give up actual assets

Why would it be dumb as hell if you agree with the idea of a 1-2 yr run?

If you have a chance to put together potentially the best team of all time and can only giveup Fultz, Saric and some picks, seems like you do that and worry about the rest later.

I have a VERY hard time believing Kawhi leaves Lebron to play in LA, especially after winning the East and watching LAL miss the playoffs by a wide margin in a much tougher conference.

Don't think Philly has anything to be afraid of on that front. We have to remember a lot Kawhi's camp is a bluff right now.

it would be dumb as hell to not include fultz if that's what it'll take. sorry that's what i meant.

I mean you got a chance to have a team featuring Embiid-Bron-Kawhi-Simmons just do it if you can really get it

edit: oh ok @capone

Is anyone even implying fultz+saric is a realistic deal? SA will tell them to **** off cause they get a better deal from one of those other 28 teams interested in kawhi

fultz, saric, heat pick, another pick would be a pretty nice haul. Fultz was the #1 pick in the draft just a year ago. The Heat pick is going to come in 2021 unprotected when HSers can jump to the draft.

Some teams could try to undercut that deal but they would be much less confident of re-signing so not sure what they could reasonably give up.

SA has little use for "win-now" players if they deal Kawhi and at the same time the type of teams that have young guys/picks aren't going to give them up for a 1yr Kawhi rental.

fultz + saric + any kind of pick would be an amazing haul for SA.

Yeah that's a helluva haul... MUCH better than anything the Lakers can offer, way way more upside.

Do we really think Kawhi is going to come off a trip to the finals and either a championship or 6-7 games against the Warriors, then look at LAL and see them win 40 and still be ~10 games shy of a playoff spot, and be like "sign me up I love LA"?!?!

If they trade for Kawhi and get Bron, those players will be joined at the hip for a while.

if they don't want to trade with LAL and basically any Western Conference team I think you're being unrealistic. additionally, there is a HUGE chance Kawhi doesn't stay very long so most teams aren't willing to sell a ton of their assets (if they have any to begin with) for a 1 year rental with Kawhi especially if you're team has little equity with Kawhi for the 1 year.

brent brown at least gives them non zero % chance of Kawhi staying longer than 1 season.
