Thibs couldn't trade Butler without a public demand because he'd be insta-fired. Not because Jimmy is beloved but because Thibs is so loathed by Towns/owner/everyone who works for the Timberwolves. Now you gotta keep him around to handle the Butler trade and it's probably too late to find another coach (official team activities start Friday).

Interestingly, i think his choice of 3 terrible rosters in huge markets is designed to give Minnesota a minimal return (which is in his interest). Like if he requested going to good teams someone like Portland could trade for him with the belief that it could work and they could be really good and convince him to stay. But no matter what they won't be a huge market and he's saying he doesn't really GAF about being on a good team (which i don't really believe).

This is what I thought as well, seems odd.

Don't know how I'd feel about it.

Jimmy is one step away from Russ in his ability to tease you into thinking he isn't capping your ceiling.

What do you think is the minimum that Minnesota should accept rather than just having one more year of Butler and letting him walk?

The best return might look something like a first, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Kenneth Faried, and Allen Crabbe for Jimmy Butler and Gorgui Dieng.

3 1st rd picks and Wilson Chandler who can play 30mpg at the wing who actually fits great with Wiggins. Minnesota has MAX cap space next year from this deal too

Jimmy+Teague for Lowry-OG, trade Teague to PHX for Tyson Chandler+Dragan Bender

Van Fleet - Butler - Kawhi - Siakam - Jonas w Serge, Miles, Delon Wright, Danny Green and Norman Powell on the bench

Jimmy is a lock to get traded to a team that wants to win, its actually a really smart move by him.
