I am excited for Lakers this season. Between the Young-3 and Playoff Rondo and Playoff Lance, this is easily a better team than Cleveland last year.

Have to get in the playoffs first, I'd say they are ~30% to miss.

Noah was completely unplayable a full year before the knicks gave him that contract. Was the Chicago Bulls 15-16 season not recorded or something? He had a 38% eFG and 48% free throws. How on earth did the knicks give him that money??

On the wolves board we had a discussion on whether we should bring in Noah on a minimum contract for mentoring ala Tayshaun Prince. I was lukewarm on wasting the 15th roster spot on a min contract Noah; it could have been used on someone that could make a layup. Then the knicks swooped in with 4/72!

Phil Jackson was obviously looking for a guy with an arm to spare for him to do pull-ups on.

Signing Noah's was Phil's exit plan to eventually get paid for leaving the Knicks early.

But NY Fans will soon rejoice. The Unicorn will again roam free. And a championship will be brought to the Mecca.

How significant will Jackie MacMullen's current series on the NBA and mental health end up being?

8th game of the season Lakers play the Mavericks. Dirk currently leads LeBron by 149 career points. If LeBron outscores Dirk by 19-20 points per game at the start of the season, he will pass Dirk while playing him. NBA schedule makers are kind of vicious. Hopefully Dirk can get a few buckets going back and forth.

prob won't matter much from a fan perspective, but i could see it generating enough awareness to influence the way teams handle player mental health

That was probably the weakest one. The most compelling one for me was the second on the mental health effects of being poor and black, with Marcus Morris as the central figure. I also liked reading about Shane Larkin's OCD in the third one.

I am really hoping that at some point in the future, we can get a follow-up because there were players who became more open to treatment because of this series, an honest follow-up where some players said it helped them and some players said it didn't.

What does everyone think of the rule change where the shot clock only resets to 14 after an offensive rebound?

Somewhat indifferent but I suppose I'd prefer it over a full 24.

It slightly reduces the effectiveness of rebounding which I don't like, overall it's probably good especially late in games though.

The game needs more effective/dominant big men which the rules kind of prevent. Unless your big man can protect the rim, rebound, switch on the perimeter, score effectively in the post, and pass out of the post then he's doomed to be no more than a role player.

CTG creator Ben Falk had an interesting take on the shot-clock in that it could actually hurt teams when they shoot early and get the offensive rebound. With 14 seconds though, I don't see it making much difference on said possessions because it would affect very few of them.

I dig the rule though, but I'm not sure what the benefit is other than increasing possessions..

A guard with the ability to shoot, dribble, and pass can be a star even if they are pretty bad at everything else.

The rule doesn't "prevent" this type of guy at all.

14 seconds is still heaps of time.

main reason I see is that it ups the late game intensity and saves the dribbling running out the clock.

Great rule change.
