But that wasn't what the discussion was about.

A comment was made that he could make Melo look good.

How can he do that when he couldn't make any of his teammates last year look good? There's no evidence there.

Do you think he made any of his teammates look better than they actually were last year? It's not like he made Nance look like an All Star or something (which is basically the task at hand of making Melo look good).

Also, I disagree with re putting him on any of those teams and then beating GSW.
his teammates would have missed the playoffs and been a league doormat tanking laughingstock. instead they played in the finals.

Those long-shot MVP bets don't sound so hot. If things break right, maybe those guys get in the conversation, but they're not winning it. Might make you feel good "oh I had Noah at 80:1 and he finished 3rd" kind of deal, but won't make you feel rich.

I think Curry/Durant are a backstop on how far down the pecking order things could possibly slide. Say all Bron/AD/Giannis/Harden/RWB/Leonard ALL don't pan out for whatever reasons (team success, injuries). GSW wins 64 games, Curry/Durant avg 25, one of them probably gets it.

i think this is the exact kind of environment that offers opportunity for someone to step up and crush the east and get a lot of people talking about it. oladipo seems like the most obvious candidate on long odds, but you could include kyrie/derozan/etc.

I think it's going to be hard for Curry/Durant to win it just like it's almost impossible for Kerr to win it because they're so stacked. They've also both won it before and unless the decide for some reason to go after 75 wins, they'll likely cannibalize each other unless one of them missing a ton of games.

i just feel as though dipo's peak isn't good enough to win MVP.

Yeah, with Dipo, I could at least see a path. The other long shots are a waste. Even with Dipo, he'd still need a ton to break in his favor just to get into the top 5, but if you're getting 100:1...

In all of these scenarios, we're basically assuming that all the top 6/7 guys eliminate themselves. That's probably < 10%?

my thinking with a lot of these longshot guys is that they also offer good hedge outs

oladipo can not reach his peak but be like, say, 2nd or 3rd best odds in february or whatever. you can just bet the other leading contenders for a nice hedge and prob a 20x return on investment.

He was amazing.

Exactly what I said.

He still didn't make any of his teammates look better. By all means, tell me some...

Lots of movement in Vegas suggesting kawhi to craptors is possible. I think it’d be a great fascimlie to the pg okc situation. Masai is definition of scared money don’t make none.

Problem is I don’t see who they would want to match up salaries.

Would you give up OG?

Wouldn’t they want to give up DDR? Or is his contract going to be an issue with him?

This is a must read for the lebron making teammates better convo. I moved him down from clear goat to tie with Jordan after reading it

No player creates an easier environment to succeed offensively than Lebron James

He generates a lot of open shots for guys who have trouble generating their own open shots. It's pretty simple, you can take it or leave it, but seems like creating spot up 3's for Smiff, Korver, Hill and open dunks for Nance, Thompson would make those guys look better than they otherwise would.

He makes guys like Tristan Thompson who cannot have the ball in their hands much look a little better. But he certainly does not make more skilled players who should have the ball in their hands some look better. For example, Kevin Love, Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade, Dion Waiters, etc, etc.
