Is Jrue considerably better than Wall on D? They are the same exact age and their numbers look comparable:
Jrue: 1x All Defensive Team(1st Team 2017-18)
Wall: 1x All Defensive Team(2nd Team 2014-15)
Jrue career: 2.3 STL%, 1.1 BLK%
Wall career: 2.4 STL%, 1.5 BLK%
Jrue last year: 2.0 STL%, 1.7 BLK%
Wall last year: 2.0 STL%, 2.8 BLK%
Jrue counterpart PER last 5 years: 15.8, 18.8, 21.3, 18.5, 18.1
Wall counterpart PER last 5 years :17.6 , 17.8, 16.1, 16.9, 15.8
Jrue DRPM last 5 years: +2.10, +1.18, -0.94, +0.77, +2.00
Wall DRPM last 5 years: -0.13, -1.26, +0.12, +1.73, -0.44
Jrue USG: 23.1% last year, 23.3% career
Wall USG: 29.1% last year, 27.5% career
DRPM and the recency of his best defensive season(last year) is the strongest case for Jrue. I think the Usage stat is a huge point in Wall's favor though. Also worth noting that Wall led all Wizards starters in BLK%(whereas Jrue had AD). So Wall is being asked to run the entire offense, be his teams primary rim protector, and lock up his man on D. Jrue was the 3rd option to start the year, moved over to SG halfway through the year, and has AD protecting the rim behind him. I think there is a strong case that Wall would be an elite defender if he were more of a role player who could concentrate on D.
