With the 18th pick in the draft, we’re gonna take Rudy Gobert.

Top 2-3 defensive presence in the game right now, and as we’re getting him for his age 26-30 seasons, he should hopefully remain top 5 defensively throughout this format.

Gonna be easy to build around him, especially when you consider the positional scarcity up top at the 5. Yazz ripping off the long winning streak (37-18 with vs 11-16 without) and making the playoffs this year after he returned from injury with a mostly inefficient Dmitch carrying the offense and a group of above average role players gives us a good team building blueprint that will guarantee us a playoff appearance throughout the time frame.

Mitchell going before Gobert is unbelievable.

Gobert really got slept on. Hard to imagine a team with him being bad.

I dislike Mitchell. Lifehedge. Otherwise would have drafted Tatum.

I think Rudy was the best asset avail for awhile. There is someone I desperately want on my team. But I'm going to try to land him at the tail end of my snake.

Positional scarcity. my dude here just turned 24 and is about to be a maximum salary player. 4th in NBA in WS/48. 6th in defensive win shares. 18th offensive. I believe he's the last cornerstone center available.

With all the 4s that're gonna be drafted to close at 5, I do not think people saying "positional scarcity" at the 5 know what it means. I also think that makes Clint a not particularly exciting (though probably fine) pick, and I don't think Rudy was crazy slept on. I mean he should have gone before Cousins and the coach, but those were bad picks, and you're instantly limited with him as your C on O, and O is more important than D.

Yeah I feel like Gobert should have been taken a little earlier, definitely way before Mitchell.

Capela as your best player is just a facepalm.

Last sentence could also be true, but imo I think these teams will be better 3-5 due to less teams, so you can field a good offense around him if that makes sense.

Why do you guys think this? Aging curves won't be too far off given how good of a rookie season Mitchell had and Gobert's injury concerns, so we're basically just arguing the value of massively outlier great defender (though admittedly less so against small ball teams) who is neutral on O against primary or secondary creator who would be a little unsettling as the former and pretty sweet as the latter, is likely to be a clear positive on both sides of the ball, can play a cpl positions, create late in the clock, etc. Also has more upside, in theory.

He’s coming off a meniscus tear and will be 29-33 in this exercise, but he should be much easier to build around than other available options with his well-rounded game, three-level scoring ability, and defensive flexibility.

No, it is that he can’t shoot 3s. He couldn’t even shoot 3s in college. In fact he rarely shot outside the lane in college. Teams would literally sag off into the lane daring him to shoot and he wouldn’t. At least he was smart enough to realize he shouldn’t shoot outside the lane though.
