I don't mind KAT. I have an affinity for post-hype sleepers and he knows Thibs is a dolt, so you know he's got a good head on his shoulders

KAT is fine just don't like that he's not an elite defender. I'd have to debate about picking him 8th if Curry was not available and Doncic wasn't picked. Doncic is much better if contracts and if this was a full dynasty. In this, he's a super stretch. Like I can't imagine him being a top 5 player in any of the next 5 years with KD/Kawhi/Giannis/AD likely locking up 4 of the 5 spots and Lebron/Harden/Curry having a shot at one of the 5 spots the next few 5 years.

The next 10-15 picks are much more interesting than the top 9.

Feel like Harden likely peaked, played 72 games last year; Steph's injury concerns are well known. Those were my three.

If it was a three year, instead of a five, I take Harden.

I'll get literally every drop of KAT's prime with Thib's coaching him (if they both stuck the entire tenure). He's going to be near dead man walking after.

I'm gonna state I'm not the biggest Curry fan but before this season he missed between 3 and 4 games the last 6 regular seasons of which some were likely due to rest.

Harden is probably more valuable in this than a regular league since he can handle more load and there won't be super elite squads like the Warriors that exist.

Sure, just talking moving forward as well. Don't mean to overstate it, just a potential deciding factor between picks.

Could Steph handle the load of being a true #1 that whole time? And (potentially) for five years moving forward? He's shared shots his whole career, starting with Monta.

Steph has been in the 30%+ usage range the last 3 years and 28% the 2 years before that (he's 15th all time in usage). Like I'm not sure how he'd do jumping to 35% but KAT has been at 25%, 29% and 22% his first 3 years.

It's not apples to apples, positionally.

KAT has some pretty ball dominant players with him (understatement). He doesn't have the luxury that Steph does, starting with the ball. Or, you know, a coach with a system.

KD is 10th all time in usage.

He also plays with another guy who has +24% career usage. The lead assist guy isn't Curry on the Warriors, the ball goes through another player on most plays.

Yes if I had Curry playing Iso ball he probably wouldn't be as good but I'm not going to have him play Iso ball. That would be a huge waste of his talents.

With the exception of Doncic, I don't see a lot of difference in value between these guys. Kawhi/Giannis/AD seem like the best afa peaks are concerned, but there are things about all three that you can criticize.

I think Harden/Steph/Lebron/KD are clearly better players than the above, but they are also older, and the best player is the oldest.

It's a really interesting draft because I couldn't argue any order (sans Doncic) with any real conviction.

KAT is like right in the middle, probably a top 15 player now but has another few years to get better...

KAT is a high floor pick. Hard to imagine him not being a top 20 player all 5 years. Hard to imagine him being top 5 tho

If he improves defensively, it's easily imaginable.

He can do everything you want from your 5 on offense, and already produces it at this age (surrounded by chuckers). While rebounding at a v high rate already too.

I'd also like a larger sample of how he handles the playoffs--this year against the Rockets is it so I'm not sure how good he can be against elite competition. Everyone else selected so far other than Doncic has a much larger sample size in the playoffs and I'd power rank playoff ownage as:

Lebron > KD > Kawhi > AD (small sample) > Curry > Harden > KAT (really small sample)

I don't really see it being all that hard to imagine KAT having a few seasons as a top 5 player. In fact I think its pretty likely he will.

Even still, KAT at 7 is a perfectly reasonable pick. He's a stud and in almost all scenarios, still improving over the life of the draft
