Levy hasn't won a real trophy (lol league cup) or made a final since taking over in 2001

spurs should throw all the money at bale. everything levy has saved by nickel-and-diming people and making life miserable for everyone he comes in contact with, just offer it to bale

they can't compete with city, but city might not go for him and spurs can offer a more football-wise than united if the money is somewhat similar

Say they bring Bale in.

Pay him a wack. What happens to all their current star players who are then earning peanuts in comparison?

they continue on their current contracts and can try negotiating new ones if they like

it's not like dele alli is any less underpaid if bale goes to United for 400k a week than if he goes to spurs for the same. he has a contract. that's what counts in the end

I don't get this Mahrez thing, is he actually good enough to get any minutes for City?

He definitely is imo but then I guess the question is whether you want to take all those minutes away from Bernardo Silva. Seems a bit unnecessary.

I guess part of my question is too, with unlimited money, is he the best person to go and get? Like you say, if you're going to take minutes away from Bernardo Silva, maybe just go and get Bale?

In regards to Liverpool's needs, with Keita already in and Fekir all but signed we're not needing a huge amount. A second striker will be tricky given Firmino is always going to play. We could probably do with a player like Son who can play anywhere across the front 3. I'd like us to sign an elite keeper but I think Karius might be given longer.

It's completely different kettle of fish.

Why is he getting X when you're only giving me Y? Thought the cap was Y?

I want out. They've already lost Walker. Rose wants out and Toby is going too.

The only way it passes is if they get Real to pay a chunk of his wage, guess they could fiddle the books and pay slightly more for him to cover that wage as part of the transfer fee to real to keep the over all wage bill down and keep the ball in Levys court with contract renewals.

Why not go for Alisson?

I guess you'd be competing with Arsenal for him though.

i dont buy it. as you say with walker, rose and alderwiereld the players already know what they're worth and want more money if they can get it. it's not like the lack of superstar wages made walker think "hey i should turn down 100k a week extra from man city"

Yup exactly. Spurs players have to move in order to get the superstar wages.

It'd be a disaster if they brought in Bale and paid him superstar wages, they'd have to increase the wages of everyone (well their big name players). If Bale comes in and gets double/triple (or whatever) the wages of Kane, Kane would be demanding the same. They're also on long term contracts.

It's different at others clubs, it's not as if Jones/Lingard etc at United can go Sanchez is earning way more than me, club just go - feel free to leave and try earn as much elsewhere.

yeah i dont buy any of that for a second. the players are already trying to get everything they can. paying bale doesn't change any of that

Of course it does, our wage cap is X but we will give you multiple bonuses based on performance and game time.

If X suddenly doubles/triples etc it's a different ball game.

I think I'm on #teamdaca for this one. Kane won't happily sit there earning 100k forever, regardless of whether they bring someone else in for 300k or not. He (or more accurately, his agent) knows what his market value is and will try to get that when he feels it's most profitable.

Why is the wage cap important if he can go up to Manchester and earn 3x the amount?

That's the entire point.

They aren't going to blow the wage structure to get one player and force many others out the door at the same time.

Unless you want them to just go balls deep and start paying everyone >£200k+ p/w.

Spurs wage bill is has been increasing massively in the last couple of years but its still under £130m, Leicesters and Saints are both >£110.

City and United are more than double.

I think you're misunderstanding the argument in that case. We (hopefully I'm not misspeaking for Daca), are saying that they will have to blow that wage structure regardless because players can look around beyond their own dressing room and work out that they're getting paid below the market rate.

like if kane desperately doesn't what to move to manchester and spurs are telling him they don't have more money so they can't pay him more. and he's buying that then maybe it would make a difference.

but he should also fire his agent in that case because everyone knows they actually run a profit and have plenty of money, so he should always push for everything he can (and he probably does already so bale wouldn't change anything. he's just stuck because he has a contract)

the more likely thing is kane will leave if he doesn't think he can win a league tittle

There are clearly factors at play that can influence decisions beyond money (like Kane eventually making his way back to his boyhood club - Arsenal), but that will only go so far if a) Spurs aren't winning anything, and b) He's getting paid far less than players who aren't fit to tie his shoelaces.

Ah that old chest nut of his of just going full pelt and spending >£200m a year on wages.

It's all well and good saying, oh they made £40m profit last year. Just blow the load on Bale transfer (5 year payments) and use the rest to pay his yearly wage.

That doesn't factor in having to pay everyone else. Spurs have increased their wage bill by 27% in the last financial year. Their wage bill is still less than half of what City and Uniteds are.

Even if they start paying their squad a similar rate to what Plop are paying - bare in mind that no player a plop earn nearly as much as what Bale does/would - again unless Real subsidise his wage.

Even if we forecast similar commercial growth, stadium revenue (although i'm not factoring in the NFL? or is that going to wembly?) and TV hasn't increase (finished runners up higher payout for these records). They'd be in the red of between £20-30m, have an wage bill to revenue ratio that is unstable.

They then have a stadium to pay for as well.

rn:

kane: "i want 300k a week. that's what im worth"
levy: "im sorry, but your contract gives you 100k a week the next 5 years. we'll give you another 40k if you sign over a 6th year"

if they sign bale:

kane: "i want 300k a week. that's what im worth and you're paying bale 400k"
levy: "im sorry, but your contract gives you 100k a week the next 5 years. we'll give you another 40k if you sign over a 6th year and you can win the league here"

Kingweed is correct.

Any employee of a company can complain and irl potentially have legal recourse if someone is brought in to do a similar job for 3x what you are on.

If someone at another company is earning 3x for a similar job, then start working on your CV.
