Why not just buy Heaton? I don’t think Pope is any better, just younger.

Pope and heaton are good, but likely benefit massively from how burnley play.

I think anyone buying Heaton would need to know that he's fully recovered from his injury first.

I think Pope is better on crosses and commanding his area, his major weakness is his kicking, which is why he probably won't go to any of the top clubs as their managers appear to think it's more important for a goalkeeper to be able to distribute the ball than to be able to stop it going into the net.

Happy with Fred as he's a definite upgrade on Carrck/Fellaini/McTominay/Herrera, I'd be quite happy to offer Dembele a decent 3 year deal he's unlikely to get at Spurs rather than splurge 100+m on Savic when he's still pretty unproven.

Understand Mandzukic links since we need a number 2 striker but Arnautovic is a bit wtf.

Maybe a silly question TP, but after that very good season, is Heaton the starter if he's fit?

I've no idea.

Good problem to have though, but it'll be hard to keep them both happy. Wouldn't surprise me if one of them left.

If I'm Burnley I prob cash in on Pope assuming you can get a tidy sum for him (approaching Pickford territory). You could upgrade a spot or two outfield with the money and probably have ~zero drop off in quality putting Heaton in goal again. Seems like a no brainer. Dyche gonna Dyche though.

I'd want more than Everton paid for Pickford, Pope is a better keeper and Pickford was uncapped when Sunderland sold him. Would also need to see how Heaton has recovered from his injury. Both have decent lengths on their contracts, so delaying the decision another window or even season would be best imo.

Not sure what you mean by Dyche gonna Dyche, care to explain?

You can't baseline your expectations to the worst goalkeeping transfer in football history. I don't think the same mistake will be made again for a long time. Other keepers will go for big sums (and considerably higher than Pickford did), but they will be much better and proven. 25m should be a snap call imo.

I don't think Dyche would know what to do if you dropped him 25m to spend on 1-2 outfield players. Probably get a couple more reliable, but uninspiring midfielders.

i really don't want to be the one to defend the burnley guys, but 25m doesn't get you much more these days

The thing that occurred to me was that if Burnley do appear to have two good keepers then as the season ticks near they'll have very little negotiating power with the one they're not starting.

What's to negotiate? Both have over two years on their contracts, Pope signed a new one fairly recently. We're not letting either go unless it's a big fee.

And I think that would be a mistake. They may well be two or your best players overall, and one of them will have to be on the bench at all times unless you guys come up with a revolutionary new 2-keeper system.

I'd sell whoever I could get more money for and buy an outfield starter. You might even be able to get two.

I already said I think one of them will go, but it won't be on the cheap. An extra £15-20m won't make a great deal of difference to our transfer strategy anyway.

It’s truly amazing me how peoples hatred of Burnley has them saying stupid things.

Burnley should be selling their players for way under market value, just for reasons because they think it’s a mistake.

Yet when others hold out for figuers they want, no questions asked. Look at what Plop have paid for players in the past to English clubs - even years ago with Carroll. Sunderland absoloutely had to sell Pickford they had no option. No way on this earth did they accept the first bid.

Burnley selling though? Game changer, fire sale. Even more so if it’s one of their two best overall players.

Not as if Plop need a new keeper either, which further strengthens their negotiation position.

MW is right imo.

Whatever "valuation" of their goalkeepers is (and by valuation I don't mean the valuation of a Burnley fan), there is a good chance that whatever keeper Burnley decides to sell has a value lower than the ££ they would go for.

I mean, I don't want to bring up the OAKF theorem and all but it is the least impacting position in football and a white british goalkeeper for a team conceding a lot of shots is always going to get overvalued, see Pickford.
Mignolet was also player of the season for Sunderland and looked like a really good goalkeeper there (undeniable really) and now look at what the opinion is. Is the theory that his skills changed overnight or that he can't cope with the pressure of the magical klopp singing YNWA?

Obviously you try to get as much value as you can from a Burnley's perpective but if you like money and can't get a higher offer than what you have on the table, take the money because it is probably going to be more than the value of the keeper playing on the field, let alone on the bench

This. As soon as Liverpool phone up about a GK, I doubt anyone quotes less than £30m.

In the case of Burnley, I'm pretty sure both Pope and Heaton fancy themselves at the #1. In 2 years time, one of them will probably have established themselves, and therefore the other will be available at a more modest fee than they might command now as they will probably be angling for a move.

And what do Burnley do with the money anyway? Anyone who is a clear upgrade on what they have probably breaks their wage structure.

I think Dyche keeps both unless silly money comes in, and is right to do so.

The greedy owners keep it in their pockets obviously.

Edit : What a ridiculous question to ask, there is about a million things you can do with that money. Levy truly the GOAT for managing to brainwash spurs fans that you should stand pat because you can't use the money to "break" your wage structure

It's not just for reasons though. Would be saying the same about any team with 2 good GKs

Surely the value is defined by the price someone is willing to pay.

And as I've said multiple times, we'd be stupid to sell Pope before Heaton's shoulder has been tested in a competitive fixture or two.

You know the transfer window closes on 9th August this season?

I suppose it's be a good way to test the greedy owners theorem. Surely if they're as greedy as daca suggests, they'll be happy to cash in on either keeper.
