In my merit table only Uruguay had a more impressive World Cup than England from the teams that didn’t make the SFs.
Brazil was unluckier with the pairings but their draw against Switzerland stops me from putting them above England.

If France wins I think Mbappe takes it (and perhaps deservedly). If he has a very underwhelming final they should give it to Kante but it wouldn't even surprise me if they hand it to Pogba (if he luckboxes a goal) or even Varane/Griezzmann if they have a good game.

Has to be Modric if Croatia takes it.

Would think Courtouis did just as well as Pickford, if not better, but the group stage seems so long ago that I can hardly remember what they did then.

This is just complete garbage. Beating Tunisia and Sweden and drawing with Colombia and then beating them on penalties doesn’t sound great but it’s more than what the teams above did. Maybe we can debate Brazil. The others is just ridiculous anti England bias.

Not sure how it is "complete garbage" to suggest that Uruguay or Brazil is > England. Or Spain for that matter.

Brazil and Urugay both ran into possibly the two best teams of the tournaments.
Sure they underperformed in those games, but beat quite solid teams on their way.

England had an amazing fixture list. They didn't perform over expectation even if their 4th place finish is way above expectation obviously.

The only way England was better than Brazil this WC was in the final standings( 4th vs 6th) .

Or maybe performance vs expected performance and even then meh not sure.
