Doesn't the fact that it was a FK rather than a Pen matter too? They removed it from the Pen because it was double the punishment.

As already demonstrated my knowledge is also ropey, but surely there are three potential outcomes at play here:

1) Red card + pen: if the ref initially thought that the defender did not make an honest attempt to play the ball

2) Yellow + pen: if the ref thinks he did make an honest attempt but still fouled

3) red + FK: outside the box but stopped a goal scoring opportunity

My understanding is that there isn't an option 4) for yellow + FK if the ref decides that he did stop a goal scoring opportunity - i.e that part of the rule hasn't change.

I’m more excited about the 2+2 posting experience than the actual game for Colombia vs England.

I think I'd back Colombia if James was healthy. Big opportunity for England, lots of pressure as well.

Yes it really sucks that James isn't fit.

This seems like a pure destroyer lineup from Colombia. Maybe the most pure defensive midfield from any team at any point the entire tournament.

And then it will be hit and hope to Cuadrado who should find space vs this system and very smart Falcao vs, compared to him at least, a couple of pretty dumb defenders.

Both could easily just be too isolated though and where Quintero is best is where England should really press.

And who is going to hit even decent balls to them? When midfield Sanchez is your best midfielder passer you have more worries than your opponent.

Lerma and Barrios are extremely aggressively defensively, for good or worse not with stricter European discipline so to speak, which should be fun. So is the centreback pairing of course. I strongly approve there but it's a nice clash.

Maybe Colombia's best hope is some crazy rush forward from Mina or something...

England have all kinds of more attacking potential and players who can create on and off ball and finish. We'll see how much they will manage against what looks like a team setup to SPOIL.
