I'll glad to be wrong, but Cristiano Ronaldo will play directly against 34-year old Zhirkov and 39-year old Ignashevich, who was retired from the national squad before having to be called back bc there was no one else available. No amount of PEDs can help there.

You are right. If they both finish the same position to advance, it's the semifinal, if one wins the group and the other one gets second, it's the final.

It did cross my mind that the oldest outfield player in the tournament should drag these numbers down a bit.

Still, the British public are willing to believe that a 33 year old Mo Farah is capable of sprinting away from the field at the Olympics and that Linford Christie (the only person ever to gain a yard after his 30th birthday) at the same age was the fastest man over 100 metres on the planet without any medical assistance, so I should probably leave the man alone.
