It's an unnecessary interruption of the game, and a lot of the times they even still get the decision wrong. What's the ****ing point?

That it affected PortuLÖL this time is amusing me, but we'd have won the DFB Pokal if not for similar ****ery.

They are trying to use it in an enlightened way, only for massive obvious errors like the ref sending off the wrong player, someone clearly scoring with hand etc.

A foul with a degree of ambiguity seen by the ref is not going to be overturned and that seems like a good policy imo.

In england they have used VAR to disallow goals for really nitty offsides, like the point of an elbow, its much worse used that way.

Yeah I know it's not about pain. My question was more about can you touch the person at all in the air? Is incidental contact okay? PI in American football is highly subjective. Generally though you can be touching the receiver and not be flagged. I've heard analysts on the call in the match earlier say it was a clear and obvious foul and a couple have said it's a play on. I'm just curious on what it usually is in a situation like that.

Nah because plenty of fouls dont sort into a neat binary of foul/not foul, many fouls calls/not calls are hugely debatable.

If you are going to have any sort of consistency with VAR its there to protect against the hoooge howlers/cheating that I identified above.

FWIW that is the official policy at this WC.

VAR is AIDS. It's AIDS even if implemented in a way that actually overturns wrong calls, because **** that. Football was doing just fine with the occasional ref ****up.

But the way it's implemented right now, it's making a mockery of itself.

And before you give me the "old man yells at cloud" bs, I'm 100% in favour of goal line tech. That **** is INSTANT. And it works as intended. Great addition to the game.

VAR is AIDS, though.
