I think the mighty Spain 2010 would have trouble doing 800 lateral passes with Kanté,Pogba and Matuidi out there, then there's M'bappé exploiting spaces.

Their first Euro run was impressive not gonna lie, then they stopped going vertical, to this day.

Spain 2008-12 is the best I've seen.

Their 2010 semi final win over Germany was a master class in dominance, even with just a 1-0 score line.

2010 Spain beat us with an offside goal, 2012 they did it in penalties. They were really good, but it takes a lot of variance to win 3 tournaments in a row.
And it's football, no one does a master class in dominance winning by 1-0

The 2012 final is the best I've ever seen any team play, I think.

I had to watch the full game again at the time, because Spain bossed the Germans so hard. It was amazing to watch (personally I didn't find it boring).

Just watched the 2010 goal vs Portugal again. Are you saying Villa was offside? Didn't look it to me.

Italy had a man sent off when they were 1-0 down, but IIRC that first goal was beautifully constructed, and Spain would almost certainly have won it anyway.

I think I'm going to have to agree. Mostly. Best I've seen (and therefor in existence, factually) is obviously DEUTSCHLAND 2014, but in the 2010 semi, there was quite literally not a single second Spain were ever not in control of everything. Amazing performance.

I had forgotten about the sending-off. Anyway, I watched that feeling we would've had absolutely no chance had we beat Italy in the semi.

No player was sent off but Italy played the last half hour with 10 men due to injury and having used all their subs. It was 2-0 at that point and as i remember Spain were dominant before then. Also I can’t remember the WC 2010 semi final but in reference to FH’s point, there is the rare occasion a 1-0 is utterly dominant and Spain 08-12 being one of those sides that can produce it.

It was utterly dominant. It was the only match I can remember in which I had a strong rooting interest but remained super calm throughout. To me it was pretty clear from very early on that we're simply not good enough to beat them. No reason to get riled up, just accept your fate kind of a thing.

Ugh my memory failed me there re Italy's 10 men and the score. Cheers.

I had this same mentality at the start of the 2010 final, but sadly hope grew the longer they didn't score. Having had Robben 1on1 with Casillas at 0-0 proves the obvious fact that even a side as great as 2010 Spain needs luck (in succesive cases of no unluck) to win anything, let alone 3 in a row. Ultimately instead of the stoic I tried to be I probably felt the same as all the naïve overconfident Englishmen facing their inevitable biennial bad beat

Iirc they were also old and hadn't rotated a lot, had some games go to ET? and were just an accident waiting to happen. Final felt kind of unfair. It's too bad cause I quite liked their play.

If you have Nigel de Jong in your team, and Howard Webb reffing, there's always höpe.

Oh, and Robben of course. He might just Robben at any moment.

I was certain it was over when Robben was 1 on 1. I reckon he scores that 80% of the time.

With Italy I expected a tougher game after the way they beat Germany (who looked like real contenders imo) in the semi.

There's already a documentary out on the French team. Can't get it to embed with the time stamp

What does Deschamps say when he breaks up their match of roundabout ping pong? 'Don't get ****ing injured playing roundabout ping pong' maybe?

He tells them to play normal because the last time they broke a window.

The only thing that's lacking in this doc is that it doesnt cover the night after Argentina where they had a battle of fire extinguishers that resulted in fire alarms going off and the hotel having to go through an evacuation drill at 5 am, A+ doc nevertheless.

Went to penalties against England.

It's the most dominant I've ever see a team be in a 0-0 draw. Pirlo was immense and it would have been a travesty if England had gone through.

Oh yes I remember Pirlo absolutely ran that game, and he was also immense against Germany IIRC.

In Euro 96 it was a similar story in the QF vs Spain, except England won the shootout. No one in England (fans/media) recognised how badly outplayed they had been (at least one perfectly good goal called offside), which is why the fans and media annoy me so much. At least they played better in the semi.

Had they beaten Italy in 2012 it would have been exactly the same.

GÖAT ÖAT. They're like little boys on a summer vacation, casually winning a World Cup on the side!

Still: DEUTSCHLAND 2014 >>>>>>>> France 2018, factually.
