Hopefully the hospitals are emptied of all the lebron stans after he MISSED THE PLAYOFFS and they've made a full recovery

LeBron made the Finals 8 straight years and missed the playoffs in one season where he finally got injured and was surrounded by a potpourri of 21 year old role players (who also got injured). He just exchanged those role players for a lock Hall of Famer in his prime and will now spend the offseason getting jacked af and is LOCKED IN for next season. Don’t think missing the playoffs in an injury riddled year when you had no title equity matters much to anyone who understands the NBA.

For contrast, the Warriors made the Finals 5 times in a row, and half their team’s legs exploded and we’ve been reading articles for the last two seasons about the massive psychological toll of playing 100+ games. Meanwhile:

Oh ok, I get the cap issue now. The pels want to deal #4 and the team that takes #4 may want to execute the deal at a different time than Lakers.

You gotta cash in at some point.
Asset accumulation is the rich man’s cap space. Way over rated as assets 90% of the time.

I feel like the players union would have a hit put out on him. Given his max is the max maybe he will just give up four million for laughs. But he has no prior relationship with the lakers and no long term contract, so giving up four million in advance seems like a less than astute move.

I just think people should not be upset if he decides to keep four million dollars he is owed.

I look at the trade kicker as a monetary bonus for being dealt to a team the player does NOT want to go to. Demanding a trade and getting dealt to a destination of your choosing does not seem like the spirit the clause was trying to protect. I think AD will look greedy to the general public as well if he takes the bonus.

It's to cover increased cost of living. 27 million is fine for NOLA, but he'll need the extra 4 million to make it in LA.

In soccer for example when you become a complete insufferable whiny ***** like AD is you have to "hand in a transfer request" which means you waive your trade kicker to go to the team you want. Preposterous this dude gets $4m for doing this. Why wouldn't every single top 50 player do the same exact thing?

All the people talking **** now are gonna be the same ones trying to play the underdog card when the lakers get knocked out of the playoffs this year.

Not me. I'm talking no **** and playing the underdog card right now.

I like the the trade, but they've still got significant work to do to put together a competitive roster. And whatever they do end up with will be flawed. They're not going to put together a juggernaut like the Warriors before they all got hurt.

How the warriors came together were a once in 30 year occurrence. I don't know if we'll ever see another team like them for a while. If the Lakers can add a piece or two to get to the point where their chip equity is 25 to 30%, they will have done their "job" and then it's up to the players. Pelinka still got played hard by Griffin though and I'm a bit frustrated that he didn't play a better game of chicken.
