No doubt true overall...just noticed that the top 5 male players are all over 30 though. Hard to believe that this has ever happened before.

Hingis put a curse on all the male players she went out with back in the day. They all sucked after dating her. Hard to believe she couldn't make a serious run at a singles slam with the LOL talent around ATM.

Grats to Fed. Amazing year for him.

I'm sure we can all agree that Sergio Tacchini still makes the best-looking tennis clothes in the world, right?

Hingis has won all four grand slams in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles - except for never winning the French in singles. She's got to be the only one who has accomplished that, right?

She's not even the only Martina born in Czechoslovakia to achieve that - (the other one has the complete box set)

Re: 2017 Wimbledon: The Fortnight

I think court won the lot.

Think she even done calendar slam in singles and doubles, IIRC those spoke about it on the news here when she was going on about how all female players are lesbians.

Serena is pretty close, wonder if she'll start playing some mixed doubles and try bag the 2 she is missing.

Martina won her last to complete the box set in 2003

Court didn't win them all in Mixed, though...Navratilova has. Court does have the most Grand Slam singles titles, though, at 23, though.

I think what gets missed here is that Federer's movement is much more suited to longetivity than guys like Nadal and Djokovic, who overuse slide stops on hard courts. Sliding into all of those balls is just asking to go to the glue factory early. Similarly, 1HBH has greater range than 2HBH, so Fed doesn't have to work as hard to get to the same ball.

The way this is filmed when he is walking through the hallway makes it feel like watching a scene out of a movie.

Recovery is a huge issue in a tennis tournament, and doping helps nowhere more than in recovery.

Re: 2017 Wimbledon: The Fortnight

Not saying doubles should count towards anything but being entertained. Nonetheless, I find it interesting that twenty years after Hingis beat Venus at Wimbeldon they were both still playing on the final weekend. Also that Hingis's last major singles win came last century and yet she's still playing relevant tennis. The 90s were a long-ass time ago. Plus Hingis basically looks the same, which is a good thing.

That said, I still think Sergio upgraded considering his future ex-wife is at least as attractive (imo), younger, and probably isn't nearly the trollop.

My college team was sponsored by Tacchini. We got 6 outfits per season. It was awesome.

?

Quote:
Court is the only player to have won the Grand Slam in both singles and mixed doubles. She won the singles Grand Slam in 1970, the mixed doubles Grand Slam in 1963 with fellow Australian Ken Fletcher and the mixed doubles Grand Slam in 1965 with three different partners (Fletcher, John Newcombe and Fred Stolle).

Reading about her career, she has to be GOAT female player.

Check Everts record at slams, so sick

Quote:
Evert reached the semifinals or better, in singles, of 52 of the 56 Grand Slams she played, including the semifinals or better of 34 consecutive Grand Slams entered from the 1971 US Open through the 1983 French Open.

Re: 2017 Wimbledon: The Fortnight

I've said before Chris Evert is the most mentally tough athlete ever to live. I'm really not exaggerating. Her opponents were terrified of her, not terrified that they would lose, that was a a given, but that they would get beat 6-0 6-0 in humiliating fashion. I'm quite sure has done that more times than anyone in history.

Also how many grains of salt do we have swallow over M. Court's majors record before her 11 Aussie singles and 12 Aussie double are correctly discounted. Any Aussie Opens before the mid '80's had vastly inferior fields to the rest of the majors. She was a great and dominant player but her majors numbers are inflated.

I got Martina as #1. Even with some crunching of her numbers (if that's even possible) she's still clearly dominant.

Re: 2017 Wimbledon: The Fortnight

Yeah very true regarding her AO wins.

Although it's very difficult because guys like Rod Laver where banned from slams and played pro slams in the 60s.

They should really count towards majors due to the field.
