Giroud is one of the last players I'd expect Wenger to sell unless the player really pushes for it. Wont surprise me if he ends up the main striker for Arsenal this year as I think he's better than Lacazette.

No way arsene is spending that amount of money to not start him every game. Love Giroud but even welbz is a better fit for the system than him and Lacazette should be a good deal better than welbeck in terms of that whole goalscoring thing.

Would be delighted if Giroud does stay as he's such a good option to have but can't see it in a world cup year.

I don't think he's better for Arsenal. Also if that was true in general then they just massively massively overpaid.

Giroud's goal scoring is underrated. 69 in 164 in the pl and I'd imagine his goals per90 record is among the top ten in the pl. Also there aren't a lot of penalties in there.

For comparison, RVP had 96 in 194 games for Arsenal.

Benteke's gp90 is probably pretty decent too.

Anyway the point isn't that Giroud isn't good enough for arsenal but that arsenal function better as a team without him in the eleven.

Not sure if I'd go as far as to call him "better," but it's pretty remarkable how he's remained virtually our only #1 striker for the past five years through a weird combination of luck, injuries, transfer inactivity and being pretty damn decent.

Deschamps loves him too. 27 goals in 51 appearances for France, which is already 8th best. Probably gonna be top 3 when he retires.

I love Olivier Giroud. He has also been benched in the majority of games vs elite opposition, including in favour of Yaya Sanogo.

Issue with Giroud is he's an elite option off the bench, but as a starter doesn't mesh with the style arsenal want to, or need to play to beat top teams for the most part. Too slow to play on the counter.

fwiw theorem states that its not generally about the money or what you can buy with the money:

imagine finding out through the grapevine that some bloke who work your job is on 3x your wages at a rival firm. so you decide to ask your company for a raise and they explain that they cant right now but that you should understand that this place has been very loyal to you over the years, and you are reminded that you that you have a great relationship with your manager etc (he's named arsene btw)

you'd be on the phone the next day to the rival firm asking for an interview. same in every line of work, dont matter how many 0s are on the contract. no one wants to feel like they are being taken advantage of

So if the story is true then Fat Wayne will cost Everton £13m per year which seems a pretty good deal for everyone involved.
