surely we can't live in a world where mbappe smashes the transfer record after like 17 minutes on the scene. i get that he is worth a lot, but i would still expect the record to be a young player that is already world class (ie: pogba should be more, even with that massive amount of inflation in the last year).

Yeah if that's true and if Monaco indeed declined I'd be shocked.

I don't think it is. Nobody's first offer is their best offer and there is likely to be more than one interested party.

I think David Sullivan is preparing an offer consisting of £75, a signed photo of his wife with her tits out and Darren Randolph in part exchange, which should be enough to seal the deal.

Wages + player brand/markablity have to be considered as well. Solely looking at transfer fees alone shouldn't be the route in this market.

Dyche said a few months back that Burnley can afford to go out and spend £15-20m on a player however the wages is were they can't.

Zlatan is a free transfer but commanded £20m a year in wages.

£250k pw, which wouldn't make a player the highest paid at these clubs paying these fees is £65m over 5 years.

Wonder how long it'll be before wages on the original contracts will outweigh the transfer fee.

Right but owners have always shown they're not the sharpest with sample size and variance judgement

I think this has been shown to have a pretty negligible effect a lot of the time. Shirt sales mean basically nothing. There's probably some value to having a marquee signing, but I doubt it actually results in much $$$ back.

Clubs like Madrid aren't really concerned about whether they are getting value or not. They have 11 starting places to fill once or twice a week, they are looking to get the best players they possibly can into those 11 spaces.

How much is too much for these clubs to spend on one player? €150m? €200m? More? I don't know, but it is likely that they can afford the €120m or whatever. If he just turns out to be good rather than the world-beater that he looks like being, they can probably swallow losing that amount of money on the odd occassion. City dusted off half that amount on John Stones.

Mbappe looks like a unique asset. Should they not pay up for him now, he'll likely go to the other club and the opportunities to find someone that good don't come around that often.

I doubt RM are making offers before the CL final, but we will get the ~money for Mbappe by selling Morata and James.

Bit of a weird one, Liverpool have agreed to sign Dominic Solanke from Chelsea.

I think he was quite hyped as a 16-17 y/o and it's supposed to be for 3m so can't really go too wrong there. You can always sell him to Bournemouth for 10-15m if he doesn't work out.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be in that line but we don't have a big enough bowl.

Not particularly unexpected but Mahrez has also confirmed he's asked to leave Leicester.

How much lower do we think his market value and subsequent wages are compared to last summer?

Metro (lol) is reporting they want £35m and quote Goal (LOL) that he wants 100k p/w which apparently Monaco can't afford.

that sounds like the top end of the range of outcomes

alexis out, francois lepatier of caen reserves in seems just as likely
