Can't see Levy paying even half that tho. Everton have such little LEVERAGE here.

I know it's pointless to ponder but I do wonder what Everton could've gotten for Barkley in 2014 or 15

Yeah, but despite being quite rough around the edges he was still showing potential that he may be incredibly good at some point. It's a bit results oriented to look back unfavourably when it doesn't work.

Sterling went for 50m to moneybags City in 2015. I think Chelsea were supposedly interested in Barkley back then, 35-40m doesn't sound too far fetched.

Yeah, considering market inflation whatever Barkley might have gone for it would still be less than £50m.

I think he's a good get for Spurs at ~£20m. Curious to see if/what Poch can do with him.

Do we need another central midfielder? I guess he's an improvement on some.

Not sure Everton will sell at anything approaching a reasonable price though, why would they especially to a rival?

Because his contract is up in a year. If Barkley has taken a look at his various suitors and told Everton "I'm going to Spurs" (or whoever) he is likely to get his way. Spurs will know that and they won't be increasing their offer. There will be lots of shennanigans and mud-slinging, at right at the end of the transfer window you'll click on the Tottenham official site and wonder why the kid with the banjo from Deliverance is wearing a Spurs shirt.

Defoe to Bournemouth appears to be done, 3 year deal worth £120k a week.

Solid work from Defoe there, a cool £19 million from someone that is likely to tail off at some point during that contract.

It's about time Eddie Howe makes one of these signings work. He's spent a lot of money and none of them have really come off.

It will of course be Jordon Ibe's year next season though.

seems alright for no xfer fee, obv hes anti-fashionable but 10-15 league goals is pretty useful

alternative is to go spend 20m+80k/wk on whoever and pray to god you didnt just sign the next janssen

Still think Janssen has something about him and might be ok. It's not like with Soldado or Postiga or Rebrov they just didn't even seem to get the English game.

Probably just wishful thinking.

Tblitw wouldn't have been the same without Defoe.

well maybe he will, but the thing is that spuds can wait a year or two for janssen to get his act together cos next to him in the squad is the future worlds best striker sticking in a goal a game. if [relegation candidate]'s striker gives them 1 goal every 900 mins then they are relegated and a hundred million of the queen's finest goes up in smoke

i hate to sound like garth crooks, but defoe is Proven In The Premier League and that does have some value for any club where a swing and a miss at striker = you're probably ****ed

the first 10 goals/season defoe scores goes to compensate for him not defending and never passing the ball

Defoe must be the first player to ever leave an elite league for America, then come back and actually contribute something.

well sure, but mostly because players aren't leaving elite leagues for MLS at like 25yo
for the most part, they're 30+ when they arrive
(many closer to 35)

still, there are a few guys who could help CL teams if they went back today
