My spot might be fine overall. Just hate drafting a first rounder that could very possibly be available in 4 picks. I'd want that spot, or the Towns spot, or the Kawhi spot. Make this **** easy.

Jokic is closer to a top 5 player than a top 15 one, it's only a slight spew if he's making 20M per year. Towns was what maaaybe a top 20 guy last year? I know it's hard to believe because he's quietly become one of the best young players of all time, but the numbers, and more importantly his progression (4 straight years of MASSIVE, projection-busting jumps) don't lie.
I like Jokic and these Nuggets a lot, so I hope this analogy doesn't hold true. But hearing you argue for Jokic reminds me a lot of how I argued for RG3 after his rookie year. I constantly felt like I was winning all the arguments on 2p2 because I was using STATISTICAL EVIDENCE to show why RG3 was on track to be an all-time great, yet I ended up looking incredibly foolish. Of course Jokic is a huge longshot to fall off as much as RG3 did, but it does remind me of that.

IIRC this was the exact opposite of what happened in the first auction. I was the only one who saved and I crushed it. I'm not 100% positive, but I think my team had Westbrook, Durant, Batum, and Brook Lopez(although I botched it by trading Westbrook for Conley due to "better fit").

Whoa I think there are 5 guys I'd take over PG13 right here.

Maybe triple reverse wasn't a good idea with this much spew.

Jokic could use some 5 guys

Guess I evaluate different. Thought I should take the best max players first - they provide the most value over contract. I thought PG13 and 3-4 others were all at the same tier using that logic. Obv had a horrible year last year. Highly doubt it's even in the top 5 of spews of the draft. Plus I really like him which may have influenced me.

Giannis Antetokounmpo for $22milly

he made some big jumps last year and seems to have the character to make another next year. dude's a little expensive but he's going to be fun to build around.

i'm interested to hear the argument between giannis vs particular undrafted. a year ago i think undrafted was >, but giannis made a big big jump this year. he was an absolute dog in the playoffs.

Yeah, I don't where this narrative became. A salary cap draft plays closer to the auction than a dynasty draft and I'm pretty sure late players were going for dimes on the dollar in the last auction.

One of those we'll see, we'll see moments but I feel the answer to 'where will you use the cap space?' is 'many places...' There's a lot of bad contracts-decent player out there that Seadood can eat up while everyone else is trying to figure out the best $6million dollar player out there.

Now that I think about it more, Kawhi is #1 because of this. Curry is Curry but 40% of yr payroll when there will be little value on the comeback seems like the rest of the draft is going to be rough.

Mini Pick Run.

MagmumMike358 had Giannis as his number 1, so we'll take his number 2:

AD vs Giannis was the comparison I was talking about.

I think people are forgetting what a monster AD was/is before some injury problems. Close in age & contract...

So we're 16 picks in and I honestly can't tell the difference in value between most of them.. I think thus far this draft seems pretty equal as far as draft position and potential value.

[edit]

AD vs. Giannis, I have no clue and think there are good arguments either way. Magnum also had them back to back which is pretty much how I feel about it.

AD is intriguing.

I suspect if he was drafted by the Spurs and Kawhi by NOLA that they would be perceived much differently.

And especially the more important one, wins and the effect on winning percentage in lineups.
this all sounds like hating, so i want to make it clear that jokic is a really good player and one of most watchable guys itl. i'm just arguing against him as literally the best single season asset in the nba, i still think he's a top 10 pick in this

ultimately i think the differences are in the degree of skepticism people have, it seems like everybody is discounting his stats to some extent because nobody claims he's quite as good as that (i.e. all-time great)

i think until he actually does start racking up actual wins and has some playoff success, i'm going to be skeptical for a variety of hazy reasons:
- he succeeds in a unique way, will better scouting blunt him?
- his defensive stats are absurdly good for such a crappy athlete
- low minutes, even post-asb he was ~30mpg
- we still do only have a partial season of data on him as a seemingly top-tier player
- general belief in regression to the mean, lots of people look historically great and then regress just because that's how stuff works

these can all be addressed with more of the same from jokic + some more team success

you're up mcqueef

[edit] Who are the ones who regressed after historic seasons at that age? AD is the only one I know of but he regressed into being a great player from a potential GOAT. That's pretty much what I was arguing for.
