Round 7

C- Kelly Olynyk 10,607,169

I was originally planning on having AD play all of his minutes at the 5 as long as I could pair him with a solid stretch 4. There are a few guys who are fine small ball 4's who primarily play the 3 that I kind of liked but I think they would have put too much pressure on AD to battle for boards all game long. So I switched directions and moved AD to the 4 and picked Olynyk as my starting 5. KO provides solid defense and rebounding. KO is a 36% shooter on 2.5 per game in only 21mpg.

When KO is on the bench, AD will move to the 5 and the 4 spot will alternate between MaM and MKG. I think having MKG 6'7 230 and MaM 6'8 230 playing at the same time will cover their lack of size in the 4 slot. Throw in Danny green at 6'6 215 and thats a pretty fierce defense that can interchange pretty nicely. This lineup should be able to go against most of the teams in the league since few feature two oversized bigs.

Team MAGNUM
G-Kemba Walker
G-Danny Green
F-Michael Kidd Gilchrist
F-Anthony Davis
C-Kelly Olynyk

Bench
G-Dejounte Murray
F-Luc Richard Mbah a Moute

Moreover neither are good defenders. You basically took 2 much worse versions of Giannis....I guess you'll be able to run the exact same system when Giannis is on the bench, but otherwise its incredibly superfluous.
1. I don't get this line of argument for why Ben Simmons and Giannis are incapable of working together. For as much as we talk about Giannis being a point guard, basketball reference says that he played 0%PG/65%SF/31%PF last year. It isn't as if Giannis suddenly became incapable (or as you say, ineffective) playing without the ball. He only was given the point role for the same reason Ben Simmons / James Harden are. Their team had bad point guards and they were better. The same goes for Ben Simmons. (Can't defend DRose in the system. He was just a value off-the-bench pick)

2. You're saying Ben Simmons is not capable of making the quick next pass?

3. As for the shooting, yes, I agree spacing is the biggest problem. Hence why Korver, Ingles, & BroLo.

4. I admit that I don't have the imagination to really see this play out -- this idea of two point forwards (the whole point was to experiment) But for the problems it might create, I really can't see why having two (3+4 if you include BroLo and Ingles) big mother****ers who are triple-threats is considered superfluous. Like there's too much creation? It's better to have one point guard who can penetrate and surround him with 4 shooters?

Like I said earlier, the goal/fun was just in trying to create a positionless basketball team. Which meant getting jack-of-all-trades and jamming them together into a system. *shrug* I'll need a good innovative coach...

Giannis Antetokounmpo - Ben Simmons

Kyle Korver - Brook Lopez - Joe Ingles

(Derrick Rose) (Jaylen Brown)

Been eyeing Jaylen for rounds and rounds. Shocked he lasted this long with all the Celtics and Stevens love this place gets.

Good pick.

They could in theory make a trade to free up space. That seems unlikely but it is possible.

There was an earlier question if salaries need to match for trades. The answer should be no. Salary matching only happens when one or more teams are over the cap. This draft has a hard cap so everybody is always under the cap.

I gotta think there was a better, more expensive player that he should've drafted with one of his last two picks (Tyus Jones, SloMo) that combined cost ~3.50.
I needed a wing/true PG/Big to round out my bench. I checked out the landscape of players that and saw that there were about 3 bigs I really liked and only 2 teams that could afford them (aejones and magnum). One of the guys was for almost all of my cap space, so I choose to go inexpensive on the guard/wing front. I wanted:

True PG who could shoot
Wing who could defend and move the ball

I chose those two because they fit the bill, and perhaps most importantly they both force a lot of turnovers. Theoretically the best way for Jokic to be a good defender is probably to avoid him having to defend too much, so I specifically went with guys who had a penchant for possession-ending plays.

per36 numbers

Josh Richardson - 1.3st/.9blk
Paul Millsap - 2.0st/1.9blk during the non soul-sucking C years
Tyus Jones - 2.1st/.2blk career
Kyle Anderson - 1.8st/.9blk last year

Denver's defense suuucked last year, but it was a defense designed for Nurkic to be the center and to have their bigs drop back ala Portland/Chicago, and that is pretty much the worst way to have someone like Nikola defend. They are going back to a more aggro defense next year, which in theory caters more toward Jokic and they were much more successful at it (23rd ranked D) and Nikola's defensive metrics were a lot better. Jokic himself has very quick hands, averaging 1.6st/36 the previous year which was second only behind Nerl that year.

Let's magically take the top 5 teams and put them today's NBA with say 8-12th guys being replacement level. How many games does that team win?

honestly that's why i didn't trade to afford derozan, i was going to just offer aminu to any of the aaron gordon/marcus morris/patrick patterson teams just to get the 2m in space to get derozan in exchange for a pick moveup or something. but i just sucked up my stupid math error bc it felt kinda lame to be the only trader, draft was going smoothly without and not as many ppl have as much free time as i do right now
