So how much does tournament A get weighed over tournaments B,C,D? How about Australian pre 1990, when few top players competed? Arbitrarily weighing tournaments opens a can of worms and makes the ratings purely subjective.

Peak Elo is not a career measure.

Not followed the debate, but surely not weighting = weighting with every event having the same weighting, which is just as abritrary if the results are supposed to be in any way credible as a judge of a player.

The data is out there. I provided the Elo parameters. You have full opportunity to assign whatever weightings you want and propose that your method/result is better than standard Elo.

I don't care enough to want to do that, but if someone does have a reasonable stab at it then I'm pretty sure I'd regard it as superior. Even the extra length of slam matches should add credibility (though I say that from a position of great ignorance as I don't know whether this measure does do that somehow by considering sets won etc).

My Elo is based on sets won. Other than that it is identical to 538 Elo, which also did not overweight selected tournaments.

Could elo benefit people playing other peak players who are still very highly rated but on the downward spiral?

Djokovic has got to be the most boring GOAT of any sport if he really is the GOAT. Do you Djokovic fans also sweat Dan Harrington at the WSOP? "It's so sick how much patience he has. This guy plays soooo optimally."

Elo does not use historical ratings only current rating. So I guess the simple answer is no.

Elo is supposed to fairly rate players after result of an event. If it systemically overrates losing players then there might be some benefit to beating downtrending players.

Things like Djokovic at #3 while Federer is at #11 (although it's closer now of course) and Ferrer ranked above Kuerten look ridiculous as well.

Last year I had Federer at #8 and Djokovic at #9, so now I would probably rate Djokovic above Federer, yes.
