I'm not trying to call anyone out (you all know that's not my style to be confrontational), but can we try to keep talk on a playoff system and BCS tarding out of this thread?

Again, I'm not calling anyone out. But pretty please. With sugar on top.

To add something constructive to the thread: Rumors on teh intrawebs say that DeAnbre Brown, 5* WR from Ocean Springs is looking more and more like a Tiger than a Rebel. I can only hope this is true. Honestly, if he develops like people are saying, a 5 WR spread look would be a scary f-ing thing from LSU next year.

The break between the end of the season to the bowl game could lead to a few players becoming better or emerging and film you have on them is completely different and that kills coaches, absolutely kills them, especially in college where 90% of coaches have a game plan and it doesn't change to drastically unlike in the NFL where a team can change a whole part of a gameplan in a timeout.

Edit: Oh and Mallet to Arkansas looks to be a done deal. I can't find out if he gets cleared to play next year or not.
my guess is Ohio State is like Illinois and they have a huge, luxury indoor practicing facility

SEC 1/15 Tidbits:
Everyone(including Seniors, jk) at LSU is staying. Damn....Oh well, just beat UGA.

McFadden & Felix are gone(I know it had been posted)

Major Applewhite(Bama OC) is leaving for Texas, could help UF as they look better & better for JJ(5* WR).

UGA is trying to force a committed recruit from their class to pick up 5* Omar Hunter and so UF doesn't get him.

3* LB/FB TJ Pridemore decommited from GT a few weeks back & now commited to UF. Not a big time recruit but a great FB prospect that the Gators need.

Gators lead for Adrian Bushnell(over Michigan, Ok St.)

Vance Bedford(was Michigan's DB coach) is still considered to be the top candidate for the UF DB job.

Brian White(98 to 05 Wisconsin RB coach & OC) is being considred for the RB Coach

Soldinger is still being considered for Director of Football Operations

Why would he be allowed to play next year? You transfer, you have to sit out a year, that's the rule. Why would he be an exception?

Perhaps there is a reason and I'm simply unaware of it.

His head coach left, he can get an exemption if the current coach allows it, at least that is the way in D2, and I assume in D1. Thats how I was able to transfer from one school to another without missing anytime.

I feel like if a head coach or position coach leaves then you should be awarded an exemption anyway. If Coaches can leave freely and especially with these top coaches getting paid millions, then players should be allowed to leave without penalty if the coach leaves.

don't buy that UGA information about forcing a recruit out

name me the last time all 20 guys in a class in any major conference all qualified

overbooking is notorious, especially in the SEC

I assume you mean the football factories, and not the actual schools like Vandy and Northwestern (that won't even look at a recruit who has any chance of not qualifying academically).

I can only remember one time a recruit to Vanderbilt had trouble qualifying, and that was a baseball player who took too many college level classes as a HS senior and not enough of what the NCAA considered "core" classes (he'd taken almost all his required classes to gradumacate by the end of his junior year).

There are some difference in D1 and/to D2 transfer rules, but I don't know if this in one. I don't think you can transfer from D1 to D1 just because your coach changed if you are already enrolled. If you were a senior in HS and signed and then the coach changed you could get a waiver and resign with someone else, but not if you are already enrolled.

Devan Downey at South Carolina is an example, he had to sit out a year after transferring to USCeast from Cinci despite his coach being let go.

FSU people(Fwiw) seem to think they are in position for Dwayne Allen (UGA commit, 4* TE), could be the spot for Omar if they lose him. However, Omar could be gone before then.

Here's the link. Probably a poor choice of words meaning, "He will not play next year."

"Mallett will redshirt during the 2008 season and then have three years of eligibility remaining."

Hey, just because you write for/edit a major publication doesn't mean you actually need to know what you're talking about, right?

I think that's correct. Or am I missing something?

I think 'redshirt' is a misleading term, because a player can abandon his redshirt and play in a season. That's what happened to Mustain after the Razorbacks got pounded by SC in the '06 season opener. He had been redshirted as a true freshman but had to come in as Casey Dick was still injured and Johnson obviously wasn't going to hack it at QB.

I don't see what the confusion is about?

Mallett came in and played as a true freshman. There goes 1 year of eligibility. A redshirt can be issued for any season, not just your freshman season.

Now, next year, instead of having to waste a year because he hypothetically redshirted at Michigan, he can sit out next year and have 3 full years of eligibility.

He didn't hypothetically redshirt at Michigan. It's all the same. He goes to Arkansas, has to sit out per NCAA rules (thus, Arky redshirts him) and has 3 years.

4* LB Lerentee McCray is a Gator, moving the Gators up to #8 on Rivals. Apparently he's been a silent for sometime, was playing the Nolies.

Auburn apparantly looking at Pitt DC Paul Rhoads for our DC spot. I have mixed feelings. He's been there 8 years, and they had great overall stats this year. But god, the Navy game *shudder*. Fortunately, Tuberville has proven he knows how to hire assistants, so I'm sure Rhoads would be a good choice.

Perhaps Tubby should have hired some of the Stanford crew.

Yeah I'm kind of pumped about it now. They really played well the whole second half of the year and that WVU game is encouraging, especially since we play WVU the next two years. Anytime you can get a guy who is young and enthusiastic, with 8 years experience as a coordinator at a BCS school, and had his D in the top 5, that is a good hire. I'm excited for spring ball. The last time we had two new coordinators, it was Chizik and Petrino.
