Andy Reid has always been awful at clock management, but most teams are guilty of doing this and I don't understand why. Instead of waiting for the clock to tick down to 4 seconds to spike the ball to set up the FG, they do it earlier (8 seconds in this case), leaving enough time where they have to kick off afterward and giving the other team a non-zero chance of winning.

KC still had a timeout, and it was 3rd down on the WSH 25. If the snap is mishandled in some way, they can fall on it, take a TO, and kick a ~10 yd longer FG on 4th down to end the game. It's quite a reasonable decision to leave 8 seconds with a timeout.

Except Washington called the timeout with 8 seconds left on 3rd down, which made no sense. It's lost in the shuffle because of the wacky ending, but iirc they were running around like a bunch of headless chickens rushing the kicker out.

Smith spiked it with 8 sec left on 2nd down.

Washington called their TO to ice the kicker.

I didn't realize KC had a timeout. They get a pass then, since it's the safe move re: possible bad snap. Still, very often in no-timeout situations teams will rush to spike with more than 4 seconds on the clock.
