For the last week or so any attempt to log onto Wilson Software brings up a dead page. Does anyome know if they are still in business?

www.wilsonsw.com

I keep getting a HTTP 403 Forbidden screen.

Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing. Today was the first time I have checked the site in at least 3 years.

The domain is still registered, and does not expire until 2015.

However, the whois info appears as if the domain defaulted, and has not been switched back. Might be a proxy owner, but that would be silly since his name, address, and phone number are all over the site.

It's offical. Wilson Software is out of business. I got an email from Mike Frederick (principal person of Wilson Software) today confirming that they are no longer in business. A shame as their software was great. Better buy the last copies while you can!

This is sad, I really liked their software and owned all of it. But the version I have no longer runs on the versions of Windows for sale today. Anybody have a version that will run in Windows 7 or Windows 8 that they want to sell?

There are no versions that run in Windows 7 or Windows 8. The issue is that the Wildon software programs require a 32 bit OS. Windows 7 and 8 are 64 bit (unless you're running a 5 year old version of Windows 7 on SP1, in which case you've been hacked for years and your identity has been stolen many times).

You have three choices:

1) Go to a computer repair shop and see if they have a computer with a 32 bit OS. I got a functional PC with a 5 year old version of Windows 7 on SP1, which is 32 bit. It cost $200. I can run Wilson and other legacy software on it with no problems. However, if you do this, do NOT connect to the Internet. You will be running huge security risks. You'll be hacked, your sensitive data will be posted on a giant billboard on Times Square, and Justin Bieber will egg your house. Just don't do it.

2) If you don't want to buy an old PC, as above, you'll need to be able to run a 32 bit emulator on your current PC. If you have Windows 7 Professional or Enterprise, go to the Microsoft website and download and install VirtualPC and Windows XP Mode, in that order. Both are free. The XP Mode app provides a 32 bit emulator. This should allow you to run the software.

3) If you have Windows 7 Home Premium, (2) above won't work. VirtualPC does not run on the Home Premium version. The workaround for this case is more complex:

a. Download and install Oracle VM VirtualBox, a free program. (VM stands for Virtual Machine) This allows you to run other virtual operating systems on your PC
b. Within VirtualBox, click on "Create" and follow the steps to create the shell for a virtual Linux box.
c. Download and install Ubuntu. This is a free, open source Linux desktop OS. This will be a disk image that you assign to the shell you create in (b) above. Make sure you download the right image for your computer. They have a 32 bit i86 for Intel chips which will do nicely
d. Within Ubuntu, install the WINE software. This will be included in your Ubuntu download.
e. Presto, WINE allows you to run 32 bit Windows programs within Ubuntu.

There are plenty of user forums which will walk you through the Ubuntu and WINE installations above, as well as helping you with any related questions on Ubuntu. A quick web search should point you to them. Hope this helps.

Hi. I am a complete beginner--I know this probably sounds silly, but after reading Colson Whitehead's and James McManus's WSOP books, I've got it into my head that I can learn Holdem. I have heard that the Wilson software at one time the best. Apparently, it is still possible to buy copies on eBay. I was wondering if you think it is still a valuable training tool worth buying (still running XP). Also, any other advice on the best training tools for Holdem?

Many thanks,
Evan

hello woundedmoney,
I was wondering if my wilsone poker software would work on a 32 bit os with windows 7 pro installed on it. I have a friend that wants 50 buck for it and my new laptop wont play the software due to it being a 64 bit. And I just did not want to down load a bunch of stuff to see if it would. My

Does anyone know what Wilson did with their source code? It's a crying shame if they didn't either sell it to someone responsible or open source it, and I don't see any indication of either one here.

I don't have much money but I'd try to put together a consortium to pay some sort of salvage price if they just have it sitting around on Mr. Wilson's hard drive. Or better yet I wish they'd just open source it if it's not making them any money.
