Yes once you stop the downloading/install of PJ. Go to the App Store to stop it and then all your apps,music, etc will sync. This worked on both my iPad and iPhone.

I'm having the same issue as everyone here. Right before I updated my iOS I made a back up of poker journal. It emailed an html file to myself. I bought a RunGood app for $17 which is supposed to support import from poker journal. However I am unable to do it.

Here are RunGood instructions:

Rungood supports sessions import from RunGood and Poker Journal format CSV files. To import your sessions:

1. Make sure all CSV data is correct and in RunGood or Poker Journal export format.

2. Email the CSV file as an attachment to yourself.

3. Open the email in the default Mail app.

4. Tap and hold the attachment file, and choose "Open in RunGood" when the sharing options are shown.


I do not see the "open in RunGood" option when I tap and hold the attachment file. However, this file is not a CSV, but an HTML, maybe that is the reason? I do not believe there was a different format option of export from poker journal. I looked at my older backups and they are all in this format, only one from 2011 which is a .txt. How can this file be converted to CSV or how it can be imported into a different tracking app (not poker journal)? There must be smart people here.

All these new apps claim to support import from poker journal and say they need a csv file, but poker journal hasn't made backups with csv files since 2011. Am I missing something or what? That html back up file is the only thing poker journal can make since 2011.

Where was the poker journal data stored? I assumed it was on my phone and is now lost forever since I didn't back it up and had to do a factory reset. Want to make sure before buying the new iPhone that I don't have a chance to recover my data.

I'm in the same boat. I wish one of these other apps would make it possible to upload from that html PJ backup file.

I'm Laurent from Poker Analytics, we indeed need the CSV files from PJ to be able to import it. However, the feature is only available in the pro version of PJ.

Poker Journal hasn't been actively developed for years. The only updates come every year or two when a new iOS update completely breaks the app (the betas of the iOS are available months before the public release - there is no reason the developer shouldn't at least have these bugs fixed ahead of time).

If your data is important to you, I highly recommend switching to an app that is actually being developed. There are several of them out there. Take the time and do the transfer manually if you have to. It could give you something to pass some time at the table.

Here is what to do if you have an html back up file from poker jounal:

Find somebody who still has ios7 on their device, log in with your Itunes account, download poker jounal for free on that device, open your email, restore from back up. Once you restore, there is an option in the full version of poker journal that lets you export into CSV. Export your cash games and tournaments into CSV. Buy a different app (I went with RunGood for $17) and import all your sessions.

Go to Settings -> iTunes & App Store -> Apple ID -> Sign Out
And sign in with your Apple ID

I like the software but the support is useless. Is this just going to be another waiting game for ios8 support??

I did that, and it wasn't enough to sync my iPhone 5.

I had to start up iTunes before connecting the iPhone, go into the Apps library, right-click on the Poker Journal icon, and delete it.

Then I was able to sync the iPhone properly.

I'd go with sometime in January.

Right now I'm ****ed because I set a custom filter for one day, and the app didn't like that and won't open up again (I already knew updating to ios8 wouldn't work since ios7 didn't), and I'm not even sure if his next update will even fix that problem.

There's a note in the App Store saying they are "working with the developer" this could be promising as they are prob copping complaints..

just tried this, still cant get my phone to sync. all it says is waiting for items to copy

finally got my iphone to sync. my music is currently transferring now. Will try my ipad next, which i have been having more problems with (my apps wont download, my imessages dont show up on it). I used these instructions to solve the problem. hopefully i am allowed to post this as it helped me a lot

Is Poker Income the next best thing to Poker Journal?

What other apps do you guys recommend?

I tried Poker Income and couldn't get a Journal import (despite it saying right there that it's for Poker Journal) to work, and the live interface seems clumsy. I tried a couple others, and those were really bad.

So there are no other alternatives for keeping poker records?

Well, sure there are others. It depends on what you want in an app. Poker Income is very close to Poker Journal in interface (seems they pretty much designed it from PJ), but I can't deal with the live interface and I can't get a PJ export to import into PI. Maybe it will work great for you, though.

What do you mean when you say "live interface"

The navigation of live play, such as when you hit the toke button (very tiny) you have to make sure you're looking at the toke total (which is combined with buyin total separated by a forward slash) because it doesn't flash on the screen like PJ does. When you hit the break button it's not as obvious as PJ, but you might be a young whippersnapper with good eyes and accurate iPhone button skills.

Try the free version. I think it gives you like 10 sessions and see if it works for you. Just don't hit the Players & Hands field during a session because you can't back out of that screen and must hit OK and the app crashes every time.

Just FYI, those who are looking to make the switch...

For me, an import from PJ into RunGood and Poker Income will give you all wrong dates. For Analytics Pro, I get nothing but errors.

Anyone else with same experience? I can see why it's happening, I'm just not looking forward to adding commas and quotations to 2000 lines of data, and I'm not smart enough to figure out a shortcut
