I used Corona SDK for the clients and for server I used Tornado with MongoDB. I highly recommend both Corona and Tornado. First version of the server used node.js but I found it very hard to make nice readable code with node, that could be just me though.
I've used Appcelerator for standard cross platform mobile apps and have had a lot of success. One of the founders of Corona started a company called Lanica which is a 2d game engine (which is used with the Appcelerator platform). We used it to make a game for Denny's and had a terrible experience. The game ended up having to be rewritten natively.
Seems like Corona is a way better platform (and have been around way longer which helps too). We just built the first version of the main Denny's app using Appcelerator so we went with Lanica. Ugh painful thoughts!
I'm using Node.js with socket.io to build a game server for a fantasyish game. I've used Node a bunch on other projects and love it (standard API driven stuff for mobile apps). Definitely going to look into Tornado though. I've only dabbled in Python so far...
Anyways, don't mean to derail your thread. Just thought you had a really well made mobile app and was curious about the technologies.
Cheers!
