BAT file to convert old PokerStars .bmp chip images to .png BAT file to convert old PokerStars .bmp chip images to .png

Over the last couple days I have been searching for new chip mods. I found a few, but unfortunately some of the best ones still used the old .bmp & .a.bmp file format.

Thanks to G3K0 in the humongous free PS mods thread for providing the commands to convert an individual .bmp + .a.bmp to a .png file, I wrote a batch file to convert all of the files in the Chips folder.

The batch file, as well as mskmgr.exe provided by PokerStars, can be found at https://mega.nz/#!3U8TTBTI!ue48Wa9f4...Yyxqyt5-SGmxTI . NOTE: If I should not have included mskmgr.exe, please PM me, and I will upload a new version without that file. Instead, I will provide instructions on where to download it.

From the !READ_ME file included in the download:
Quote:
NOTE: The specific batch file created in this package was written and tested on Windows 7.
It should work on the majority of older versions of Windows, but may require some tweaking for use on any other OS.

INCLUDED IN THIS PACKAGE
########################
- This !READ_ME.txt file
- ConvertBMPtoPNG.bat
- mskmgr.exe

ALSO REQUIRED
#############
- ImageMagick
- An installed for windows can be found at http://www.imagemagick.org/script/bi...es.php#windows

Notes about the files included:
- ConvertBMPtoPNG.bat
- Written by me. You are welcome to distribute this file and use as needed.

- mskmgr.exe
- This file is provided by PokerStars as a part of their PokerStars Theme Integration Guide found at the bottom of http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/room/features/themes/.
- There are other files included in the PokerStars package, but as this is the only one needed for the conversion, it is the only one included here.

IMPORTANT NOTE
##############
The .bat file was created based on the PokerStars folder layout and chip denominations as of December 6, 2013.
If the folder structure changes, or additional chips are added, the .bat file will have to be modified.

************************************************** *******
HOW TO PERFORM THE CONVERSION
#############################
1. Download and install ImageMagick from the website provided above.
2. *IMPORTANT* Make a copy of your original files for backup. Never trust somebody elses program to not break something.
3. Folder Structure
- The folder structure is assumed to match that of PokerStars as of December 06, 2013.
- You should have folders named 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. Each of those folders contains both a .bmp and a .a.bmp file for each chip denomination.
4. Place a copy of mskmgr.exe and ConvertBMPtoPNG.bat in the folder containing the folders 0, 1, etc...
5. Double click on ConvertBMPtoPNG.bat.

************************************************** *******
THE RESULT
##########
The original 0-6 containing the .bmp files have been renamed 0-bmp to 6-bmp.
Folders 0-6 contain the new .png files.
All I ask in return is that somebody provide a link to the Ambassador Plaza Paulson set that was floating around this forum a while ago, originally created by user 'nair'. I really want that set!

NOTE: I created this in my spare time as something for me to use. I figured if others had some old sets they wanted to convert, it would be helpful to post. If you have any issues with it, please let me know. That being said, I don't plan on maintaining it or adding any features that take more than 5 minutes to do. I will fix minor bugs, if you ask nicely . You may make any changes you like, and are welcome to send the file to your friends.

Thanks.

Yes, the script I created will only work for the chips. If you want to convert the same type of .bmp + .a.bmp files to .png you can do something similar.

Run mskmgr.exe on the .a.bmp, then run convert with the result of mskmgr and the .bmp to produce a .png. See the commands of the bat file for the syntax.

hey krazy i followed all your instructions and the convertbmptopng thing created all the 0-bmp, 1-bmp etc. folders with the bmp contents in it but all my other folders instead of having png chips had nothing inside of it, any idea what it could be?

1. Did you install ImageMagick?
2. Was mskmgr.exe in the same folder as the .bat file?
3. Now that the obvious ones are out of the way, the only other thing I can think of is that the chip files are not named correctly. Make sure the file names match what Stars uses (i.e. 0001.bmp/0001.a.bmp).

If it works, let me know. If it doesn't work, send me a pm.

Note 1: You will have to rename your "#-bmp" folders back to "#"

Note 2: The .bat file will attempt to convert every denomination found in each chip folder as of whenever I made the file. If you are missing some of the denominations that Stars uses, don't worry, it will still create the ones you have.

In case anyone is still trying this I had the same problem and decided to put all the .exe files from the ImageMagick folder and put them into the chips folder where everything else is. Files like Convert.exe, etc...Worked the first time after that for me, nothing else worked for me.

Windpspro, you need to delete or rename 0-bmp kind of folders if they exist, not sure if it is the case for you.

Not really sure how deleting those after the process is going help the .Bat file to actually copy and convert. In all logic that wouldn't make much diff if you had the .bmp files in the numbered folders. It was making the folders just not converting into the new. I was always starting a fresh install every time. The way I described was the only way on windows 7 64-bit I got it to work.

It didn't help me to install magick without the programs in the folder like I said before. Not sure if it matters the chip set, but that wouldn't make sense if they are all the same name, anything should work. I dunno if people are still reading and trying to get chips converted or not. I'm not sure how just installing magick on the PC without having the .exe programs in the chips folder is going to work cause it didn't for me. The main Magick Program wouldn't even open the masked files, and I know the files are fine.

Anyways, maybe it will save someone the headache I had getting it to work as the instruction suggested.

That seems sort of strange. I don't know your folder setup, so I don't want to throw out wild speculation as to why it wouldn't work with only the MskMgr.exe and the .bat file within the Chips folder. I know on my own machine, I never needed to move any ImageMagick files to the different folders. Regardless, I'm glad you got it to work

Regarding the deleting/renaming of the #-bmp folders: after the process works and you have your .png files, it doesn't matter what you do with the #-bmp folders. They were created so that you would have a backup of the original files if you forgot to make one beforehand. If the process does not work, and your 0-6 folders are empty, then you will need to rename the #-folders to their original #, but that should be the only time you have to rename them. If the #-bmp folders already exist before you run the .bat file, but they do not already have the .bmp/.a.bmp files, I don't know if it will work.

The .bat file has worked on every chip set I have tried so far (at least 10). As long as the files and folders are named the same way, it will work (yes, file and folder name matters. I was too lazy to make it dynamic).

The only reason I can think of that would cause it to not work on a regular basis, is if you were trying to make the conversions somewhere within your C:\ folder (i.e. C:\Program Files) if you have User Account Controls turned on. If enabled, the UAC prevents files from being written in certain protected folders without further permission from the user. My .bat file does not run with those special permissions, and therefore will not work in a folder restricted with UAC. You will instead have to move the files elsewhere, such as a folder within My Documents.

Sorry for the long post, I tried to cover all the points over the last couple of posts. I am subscribed to the thread, so I should be notified of any posts and will reply to them.

It's been awhile since I've converted any chips, so I may not remember everything, but let's give this a try.

1) Did you install ImageMagik?
2) Did you copy both the .bat file and mskmgr.exe to the root folder? (By root folder, I mean the folder containing the original folders 0 - 6.)
3) If using Windows Vista or newer, do you have User Account Control turned on (it is on by default unless you are using the Administrator account), and if so, are the chip folders in a protected folder (anywhere in C:\Program Files, C:\Windows, etc...)?
4) Does it change the name of the original 0 - 6 folders to 0-bmp - 6-bmp?

If you still cannot get it to work, upload the chips to a file sharing website, and I will convert them for you. Normally I would ask to send them using a private message, but your account is new and cannot yet send/receive private messages from other users.

Thanks for your reply

1) I downloaded ImageMagik and its a RAR archive and doesnt have an installer ? Also i dont know what i do with that program ?

2) Yes

3) UAC is off and i dont have the chips in a protected folder , just in a folder on desktop
4) Yes it creates folder 0-bmp - 6-bmp containing the bmp chip images. Folder 0 - 6 are empty.

Maybe you can look into this i have also uploaded the chips i want to convert

This is likely the issue. You will have to extract the contents. Windows should have a default compression tool, but I'm not sure if it works with .rar. Regardless, right click on the file and if there is an option to "Extract" file or contents, select that one. If not, you might need to install WinRar (there is a free version, and even if it says the free version has expired, it will still work).

There might be an installer amongst the extracted files.

Regardless, I will still try to convert the chips for you after I get home from work (a few hours from now) and will post a download link in this thread.

Hey

I downloaded imagemagik from another source and the converting works so you dont need to convert them. Great tool thank you so much dude. I was trying to convert bmp chips in png with Irfanview and after i changed the bmp into png all chips got a white background. I dont know why its working with your program it doesnt make anything else ?

I'm glad to hear that you got it to work.

I don't know anything about Irfanview, but it likely has to do with how the transparency is translated. I think that the .a.bmp file is a mask that translates the black background of the .bmp images to be transparent, and the MskMgr.exe tool takes advantage of this. I know that Paint.net and GIMP handle transparency differently even with PNGs, so saving an image in Paint.Net with no background (i.e. transparent) will open in GIMP with a white background, and vice versa.

(Disclaimer: I am not a graphic designer, and know very little about it. I am just reciting what I remember reading in the Mods thread, with a little bit of my own thinking mixed in)

Didn't notice it was gone, and don't remember deleting it. Oh well, I've re-upped it. If a mod happens to read this, can you please update the link in the OP?

One of my favourite sets: https://mega.nz/#!mRsU3CAA!79K7KmKiX...dyS1fi4xy0x8Eg

The first time I was sent these chips to convert I noticed that the denominations do not match what is used by PS. Please take a quick read through the post I made at the time. Keep in mind this post is from 5 years ago, so it's possible that even more denominations have been added to the default set.

In your set, but not in the default set:

In the default set, but not in yours:
chip25000000
chip100000000
chip500000000
chip1000000000
chip5000000000
chip25000000000
chipone (used for Run It Twice)

The batch file I am making will still convert yours (minus the 250,000 chip), but make sure that you don't remove the additional chips when you add them to the Poker Stars folder.
