Yes, it's too late for me because I lost all previous data but it's still good to know how to do it.
I tried to back up my old files but the instruction that the HM2 support team gave me involved launching HM2 to do it and I simply was never able to launch HM2 software after the upgrade. Someone else also sent me the instruction to tweak the database program in order to launch HM2 but it was pretty difficult to follow so I just gave up.
Anyway, in the end, the clean install of Windows 8 Pro is definitely the way to go. All those error messages on my laptop after the upgrade was caused by program conflicts caused by old firmware which weren't compatible with Windows 8 Pro so the clean install fixed all the problems.
