Basically the title says it. I have notes and especially the color coding on FTP on my desktop and I'd like to get those to my new laptop.

I've emailed ftp a couple of times and no response of course.

copy over the file called username.xml where username is your actual username. you'll find it in the folder where you installed the client

I found it and copied it over to my laptop. I was able to move it into the ftp folder, but not save it as 'username.xml' Instead, it appears in line above in ftp folder as xml doc, but a "shorcut" and the notes are not showing up when I open FTP software.

i'm doing this all the time (only playing on my desktop on the weekends) and it works perfectly fine.

Maybe hold Ctrl while moving the file into your FTP folder. It's unusual that windows creates a shortcut instead of a copy.
Or take the step-by-step-route and rightclick on the .xml file -> Copy, go to your FTP folder, rightclick -> Paste.
