New Software- IdleMiner New Software- IdleMiner

Well honestly if you aren't tech savy you're going to have a hard time with a packet sniffer, not only getting it working but also interpreting the results.

If you'd like to give it a try I'd suggest installing ethereal which is a free program you can get at http://www.ethereal.com/

You'll probably have to install the winpcap driver but it is also bundled with the application.

Good luck and please if you do get it working, let everyone else in the thread know that we're not stealing anything

If someone could check up on the legitimacy of the program, it would be really helpful. I, for one, would like to test the program, as it sounds really useful, but I'm also kind of paranoid about using programs from unknowns.

I second, Dazarath :-)

I have it and have used it. I like it a lot and know the person who wrote it and can confirm the legitimacy 100%.

Scanning stuff with a virus checker does NOT detect new, novel or hand-crafted threats!

To be safe: Block it with your firewall (to stop any outbound connections), use ProcessGuard (to make sure it can't inject anything into another trusted app) and preferably use a user area with limited permissions (to make sure the installer doesn't hide something in the depths of the Windows OS).

Even if you were to disassemble it and check out all the imports, you cannot be 100% sure that it doesn't have something hidden in a packed area of the exe without spending hours and hours on it (unless its an incredibly simple app, which this isn't by the look of it).

PS: Not that I think there is anything wrong with this app btw, just when they said about scanning it with a virus killer...

Indeed it doesn't but we were advocating scanning everything you download as a good general precaution. The thing about using PG and blocking is that if you block everything you'll actually make it impossible for the program to do certain things it has to do to work.

Anyhow you can just dumbin the segments to check and see if there are any nonstandard sections (there aren't) and run depends.exe on it and see if its using anything out of the ordinary (like security token functionality, which it isn't).

1) can it handle SNGs? (especially Speed SNGs which all have the same table name 'cause party is crap)

2) can you set it to run, even if you don't have the screensaver active?
08-13-2006 , 08:11 PM
1) Currently it cannot handle SNG's but that is somethign we will look into adding. It seems like alot of people want to mine these.

2) Yes you can just start it running any time you want from from the window that opens any time you run the program.

Just use some ".code" or ".text" segments and hide the code away using some simple xor-ing, or even better just hide it away in some random data-file or a stenographed image.

Then once you have unpacked your code at some random time in the future, use these three 'ordinary' functions to drop a ".exe" or ".com" and fire it up:

Kernel32:CreateFileA
Kernel32:WriteFile
Shell32:ShellExecute

I'm not saying your app has anything nasty in it. I'm just pointing out that it's almost impossible to be sure it hasn't.

I am just plain not getting a password sent to me. I am entering everything correctly...4 times now. It's not being delivered to my junkmail folder. Is there any way to manualll send me my password?

If stox says it's good to go, I will to try it out. Stox, is the author a friend of yours?

PM me your username and I'll send you a password manually. Anyone else who is having the same problem can do the same. We're looking in to what could be causing this but it looks like the e-mails are going through fine on our end.

This has been working great since i downloaded it late afternoon. I also received the password immediately.
08-14-2006 , 01:15 AM
Any plans to make this mine for SnG tournaments ?
08-14-2006 , 01:41 AM
It is in the works and should be in the next patch. Which, by the way, are completely automated so there is no need to watch for a new release
08-14-2006 , 02:03 AM
sounds good, any idea when that will be ? I have no need of it otherwise and won´t use it until then :-)
08-14-2006 , 02:08 AM
Probably tomorrow, maybe the day after.

Will this be freeware when it gets out of beta?
08-14-2006 , 11:25 AM
Suggestion;

You have IdleMiner open, but then you see an incredible game and jump in. Now you want to get rid of the clutter of all the other tables around you and reduce some of the party lag from 12 tables being open. Unfortunately, when you press the stop button on IdleMiner, all the tables dissapear, including the one you were playing on. Can this be fixed?
08-14-2006 , 12:01 PM
Idleminer is desigend to be a datamining tool, not a table selection tool. It might be possible to put in an option to stop idleminer but not close party if it seems like alot of people desire something like that.

I also had problems getting the password, but going straight to "request a replacement password" seemed to do the trick. Haven't tried the software yet

If anyone else has problems getting a password in the mail send me a private message and I will get you taken care of. Also, let us know what kind email you use so we can try to track down this problem.

is this going to be freeware after beta-testing....how bout at least for us ginee pigs?

Can't imagine people would pay for this when there already is a free 2app combo, just for the screensaver convenience. Him not answering the question makes me wonder though.
