Moving Poker Tracker to another Drive? Moving Poker Tracker to another Drive?

01-01-2008 , 05:34 PM
My Hard disc is partitioned and to make more room on my main C: drive I am considering moving PT to the other half - the D; drive - is that possible ? and will it slow things down if I am playing on the C drive?

Alternatively can I just move my firstpokerdatabase to the D drive and open a blank database.

Thnks

I think there's a post on the PT forums with the same exact title, maybe it was you lol. I think you just need to backup all of your databases and move the data to the new drive, get a new PT license, install it on the new drive, and then point PT to the databases. If you use postgres you would basically do the same thing but have to uninstall and reinstall postgres on the new drive and restore the databases from the backups.

Go to the PT forums, they will have much better instructions as I'm kind of winging it here. I moved all of my poker databases to an external hard drive and kept the PT program on my C drive rather than get a new license. If you use postgres it doesn't really mater where PT is because all of the actual data is in the postgres database. It was pretty easy after reading the PT forums.

I found recently that you can also move your PGSQL DB by installing the exact same version and then copying the "data" folder over.

I wouldn't recommend this unless you have a good reason though (backup/restore is safer) - I did have a 2/3 week old backup, but I'd already moved my entire OS to a new drive and changed lots of hardware making it a real pain to get the old drive booting again to make a new backup...

Hey Juk? I just installed SQL and am totally clueless to DB maintenance/Back-Up. You got any good links? I am using HM currently, but importing everything into my PT2 SQL Db also.

I want to know the proper method/steps for defragging (vacuum?) and backing up. Is it all done thru PGAdmin?

For PT2 then you can do everything from the menu option: "Utilites->PostgreSQL Database Functions". As to how you do them through PGAdmin, then I'm pretty much clueless too.

LOL, I came across this post because I am looking to do the same. My dBs are access (ie not postgresql) and I have done it before.

You have to change/update the db reference within windows. You can not just move the raw db files.

I will post when I figure out how to do it. There is no need to uninstall and reinstall PT as that would just be dumb.

FYI you can add other psql DBs to PT by file maintain Data Base Names and then look after them as above.

To use PG Admin, connect to the server by double clicking on it, or tools>connect, expand the server, expand Databases right click on the database and select maintenance or select it and click on the spanner. The maintenance window pops up with vacuum, analyse and verbose messages preselected. Hit ok and away you go.

DO NOT delete/drop by mistake, when it's gone, it's gone.
