I recently started using both programms again and was shocked to see that HEM actually shows me as a loser of the last 30k hands EV wise, while in PT I'm slightly below EV.

Now, I know that EV is mainly eye candy and one shouldn't be thinking too much about it, but seeing this huge difference I'm wondering: which program is more accurate and how luck based have my recent winnings actually been?

Would be nice if somebody with insight into the inner workings of PT and/or HEM could say something about this...

Seems like you are missing some hands in one of your databases because the total profits don't match up.

What version of HEM are you using now? If its not 1.08+ I would like to see you update HEM, export all your hands, start a new DB, and import those exported hands to the new DB. You can also try to do the Options > Fix EV for Current Player and see if that changes the EV line of your current/old DB.

I did all of that and the EV is showing the exact same way.

Now I saw that PT is indeed missing some hands and while this could explain something, I doubt it would make such a huge difference, right? I really don't know where this hands ended up but considering that HEM and PT also recorded my session today differently, that can't be the only reason.

Could it be that PT is more exact? HEM only seems to care about the point where the hand was allin, not how much money was put in the pot on each street either ahead or behind (which, honestly, is a rather bad way of calculating this, imo)...

The PT3 EV graph does not take instances with side pots into account correctly; the PT3 EV system is far from complete and we are working to add EV information to the database directly at which point the graph will take all side pots into account properly.

In the meantime for specific hands if you want to see how PT3 calculates the EV, you should look in the replayer where it will tell you what someone's expected win percentage is and then you can calculate their equity by multiplying that number with the pot size.
