As I've said before in previous threads, years ago I had this cd rom called Poker Academy. I thought it was pretty good and I don't know why I got rid of it. A few years later it was taken over by another developer as Poker Genius and was a download only. I used that for a while but then lost access to it due to some unforeseen circumstances according to one of the Poker Genius team members. Recently I obtained a copy of a French version of Poker Academy and after some hacking and editing, I turned it into a fully functional English version.

I am trying to get ready for .05/.10 no limit cash games but I don't think this software will get me ready for that. This software might be okay to train for fixed limit hold'em cash games and no limit hold'em tournaments. I don't think this is a good trainer for no limit hold'em cash games. I am by no means the be all end all of poker, but the in-game advisor suggests some really dumb moves. Really, really, strange moves. I know they can't be right. I think they are just plain odd in general but perhaps they are more suitable for tournaments.

So, I am looking into some other options. I have looked around a bit and found some other trainers available online.

Advanced Poker Training, https://www.advancedpokertraining.com/

Poker Snowie

&

Poker Fighter

Does anyone have any experience with any of these and if you have tried all three, which one is the best. I'm interested to know what some of you have to say about these trainers.

How did you change the French version into the English version?
I'm also having a problem locating the English version.
So I will have to tweak the French language to English, but nothing is in the settings to allow this.

I have been using APT for the last month and am on the fence about it. It has pros and cons.

Pros:
APT lets you simulate a wide variety of games and situations. You can even play a specific hand from a specific position over and over.

It tracks your results by position, hand, street etc. and will make a weekly learning plan for you for each game variation. For example, I wasn't winning as much as with KQ in 6-Max cash games as other members were, so my training plan provided educational links to learn how to play that specific hand and then had a preset simulator where I was dealt and played KQ 100 times as I moved around the table.

There are also some other fun training tools, like the Beat the Pro, where you learn a specific component of the game, practice them by playing the exact same hands that a Pro played and then compare your results.

Overall, it's good for getting in reps and practicing different components of your game. Also, based one someone else's advice here, I use it as a warm up to playing online.

The also have weekly and monthly tournaments, some with cash prizes. Looks like they have about 500+ members.

There is also a PLO version.

Cons:
I have yet to figure out how to change the AI settings to make the bots emulate real players. For example, I play micro stakes at Global Poker, break even at cash, small positive roi on MTTs and SnGs. I've tried the Easy, Medium and Hard settings, along with adjustments for aggression, and I'm crushing the bots for a net 27bb/100 hands, which is totally ridiculous. Most of the bots are nits or TAGs and will fold quickly to any bet. They need to add in some calling stations and LAGs.

You can choose from 20+ pros (and see a cumulative) to give you advice while you play. The advice is often very aggressive and seems outdated to what is taught at Upswing, Poker Coaching and RIO today.

APT has upgraded their GTO-style bots. You can adjust their level of competence from easy to very hard, and it offers what looks like GTO advice but without showing you the different EV lines.

APT also rates your play with something called RealPokerIQ. This seems to be a complex rating algorithm, which I think favors aggressive play. Although, I have played sessions by following the cumulative 'advice' exactly and have received an average score, so that obviously didn't help me play better. I've also have been studying at PokerCoaching.com recently and have tracked my results using their strategy and they are average to below average, yet my real winnings often exceed the RealPokerIQ 'skills winnings', so I am playing better but it doesn't seem to agree with the strategy.

You can sign up monthly to try it out. Search the web for a promo code, which offers discounted prices.

I have also signed up for a free trial for Poker Snowie recently. The Mac app can be slow. The game is a good way to learn GTO play. You can set the advice for on, off, on demand or only when you make mistakes. It will also show you the different EV lines. You can train (general play), set up scenarios, import and analyze and track you evolution. The analyzer tool assigns an arbitrary score based on your error rate and that's about it. The evolution just tracks this rating over time. So not that much analysis at all. The app is weird. It only offers 5 seat games and HU, the later which is good for training in those situations, but it crashes all the time.

I have not tried Poker Fighter. There's also Hybrid Poker, which is new and being heavily peddled by Daniel Negreanu or a few other poker stars. It looks nice, but it's also $80/month.

Okay, so here is what I did:

Bear with me because I have to try to go strictly on memory with this so hopefully I will guide you in the right direction.

I am using Windows 11 but hopefully this will help.

Go to File Explorer, go to "This PC", Go to "Windows (C, go to "Program Files (x86)", go to "PokerAcademyPro2", go to "Data".

There will be a file called "default.prefs". When you try to open it, you will get a message saying "select an app to open this .prefs file".

I used Notepad to open this.

The first line in this file will say "LOCALE=fr".

Change this to "LOCALE=en". This will change much of the language to English but not all of it.

There may be a better and faster way to fix the rest of it, but I am by no means a hacker by trade so a lot of this was trial and error. With that being said, I will try to explain how I fixed the rest of it, hopefully I can convey this to you the way I actually did this.

The descriptions for the opponents will still be in French. This is where my memory is fuzzy. I want to say to use an online translator to change it to English. Copy it from Poker Academy and paste it to the online translator, then replace the test with the English. However, for some reason, I think I ran into some sort of technical issue where I had to duplicate each opponent and then correct the language but I honestly can't recall clearly. The duplicated opponent will have to have a different name temporarily but once you edit the description, you can delete the old one and rename the new one.

The description for the preset tables will still be in French. If you want to keep these, You can use an online translator to change it to English. Copy from Poker Academy and paste to the online translator, then replace the text with the English. Again, my memory is fuzzy, I can't recall if I had to duplicate the opponents or not. If so, and you run into the error and do this, you might have to re-add the opponents to the tables.

The preset tournaments will be the same way.

I might have confused you with this and these directions might screw things up for you. As I have mentioned before, I do not recall clearly how I did this. I have been under a lot of stress lately and things like this do not stay in my memory long. I don't do this everyday, therefore I don't remember it.

If this does not work for you or you run into an issue or there is something else that you notice not being in the proper language, let me know.

I might have to simply do this again in order to be able to tell a person how I did it. I never thought I would have to tell another person how I did this. I should have written in down.
