X-Post from the SSLHE forum

This hand was posted from a non 08 player. Whether or not to 3-bet the flop is the question. I'm going to link this to the LC thread from which it came and to which you can look on the last page to read what's been discussed so far.

They spread 10/20 O8 at CP yesterday which I have never seen and seemed like a good
limit to learn at, so u jumped in and played a couple orbits while waiting for 20/40. Floor had broken the must move 20/40 to start a short handed 40/80 mix which I hate. Anyway, I am at the point where I understand the rules of O8 but no clue on the strategy. You can tell me how badly I played this hand. Average age at the table is about 80 and the game seems super passive but this is Omaha so wtf do I know.

UTG limps, I look down at AsKd4s2c UTG + 1 and raise because as I understand aces can be used in the high AND the low. Three people cold call and the BB calls. Flop is A93r with one spade. Checks to me, I bet, everyone calls, UTG CR (in full OMC speech mode) I three bet which I don’t think has ever happened before on the flop in this game, two people now fold and everyone else calls. Turn is 8s, I bet and get called by a LP player and UTG. River Js and a trivial bet call call.

So how bad is PF and flop?

I mean, the board is uncoordinated, even OMC could have A3 or 24 here, I like the three bet. Howard, if you were the old man, I’d just call.

This crosspost is what led me to find out Buzz passed away. Bummer, always a very respectful poster.

Re: X-Post from the SSLHE forum

Don't really like the flop 3 bet. It will fold out hands with worse low draws. And you probably don't have currently have the best hi hand and wont really fold out better hi hands.

So it accomplishes bloating the pot with gut shot wheel draw/LD which may well not be the only 24.

Would be much better 3 betting flop if you have some hand with 245.

Would say though that if the players behind were massive calling stations maybe could 3 bet if they are likely to call with hands they shouldn't be but mostly flatting his raise would be better.

Re: X-Post from the SSLHE forum

I don't like 3 betting for the reasons stated above, but it's bc of the game conditions (live and small/mid stakes) that elevate those reasons imo.

It's a live 10/20 fixed limit game. These players and their mubsy thinking might view any postflop raise as the nuts. At higher stakes, players are going to be cognizant of the fact that they could get jammed and will likely not be folding for 2 more small bets after having put in the first one.

If we have A356 in an aggressive game, we may be 3 betting to try and ko better low draws and all the Axxx that can make a better Aces up. But that's not something that would occur as much in a live 10/20 as compared to an online 10/20 or a live 75/150. So in the example provided, my priority would be to not fold out the worse low draws so I would just call the flop.

Obv wasn't about you having a different opinion than me lol

But seems a bit pointless just to say you played it the same with no reasoning so I guess I just made a wee sarky reply.
No worries though

Re: X-Post from the SSLHE forum

Rich's post is just fine, we have great equity on this board with TPTK and the inside wheel draw. Even if we get quartered, we could make money. There's also few hands in OMC's range that would have us dominated like 9942.

And I mean if you know you're going to make nut-nut, wouldn't you jam too?
