WSOP - Mix O8, PLO8, Big O - 1500$ WSOP - Mix O8, PLO8, Big O - 1500$

I am going to play the main event of the WSOP in July. If I bust, my plan is top hop into the 1500$ Mix O8, PLO8, Big O.

Can someone explain (or recommend a place I can read about) the fundamental differences between the 3 variants of O8? I played a fair bit of each, and I do not see a huge difference. Exception for the limit/pot aspects of things (better pot odds makes you often priced in in limit, etc.)

I'd like to polish my skills before this event. Thanks!

I don't play flo8, but I see it as a completely different game. Everything is different starting from pre-flop, what kind of lines to take with hands OTF and so on.

I'd love to hear more. Do you have one or a few examples of lines that would be completely different?

Can't contribute a lot since I don't play flo8, but imagine what happens if you bet a mediocre draw IP and get check-raised in a) FL b) PL.

That's what I mentioned in my original post: you are priced in.

Aside this, I am curious to hear differences such as:
-starting hands
-tournament strategy (early, mid, deep dun)
-etc.

Priced in OK, but understand all the implications of it. Mostly you should figure things out yourself.

Not exactly the point of the forum... I come here to ask for advice, not to figure it out on my own!

But no one owes you free coaching, the guy doesn't play FL08 but still gave you a few things to think about

The best posts offer some guidance, point you in a direction, and encourages you to learn how to think through stuff on your own

But there is a vast difference between FLO8 and PLO8 that should be somewhat apparent. Just the basic stuff such as difference the cost of getting quartered between the two games.

PLO8 is a tough game to play well, and PLO8 specialists are top notch poker players imo

Of course no one owes me anything. Aside the difference in cost of getting quartered (which I mentioned in my original posts), I still do not see any interesting leads I could follow... if you had to list 3-4 biggest difference between FLO8 and PLO8, what would you say they are? Really appreciate everyone advice.

An interesting one is probably that in limit, you can survive late tournament with just 1-2 big bet. Not the case in PLO8.

The ability to bet pot makes weak low hands less valuable, but possibly increases value of high only hands. Two way hands are greatly valued.

In plo8 call stations will get destroyed and tight players will get run over.

Its the opposite. Because the blinds are bigger in limit and you are getting a better price pre when someone raises you often have to go broke with weak hands during the limit round, but you can survive in the pot limit rounds for a long time because it costs less to post the blinds and then just fold, and you can wait for stronger hands so you end up getting a piece of the pot once you are all in much more often. In these mix format tournaments the limit games play way bigger at the end stages when everyone is playing tight and careful.

Getting quartered in limit isn't that big of a deal.

Isn't that event just a mix of hi/low 4 card and 5 card (big o)? 5 card means stronger hands are made but also opens bluff opportunities as nut hands are more common. I think there's just two variants.

The 4-card variant is played fixed-limit for a round and then pot-limit for a round. They play quite differently.

I think it's a very fun event. I wish they scheduled it during the beginning of the week, not Thursday.
